Turkey Day Gang 2009

 OH NO I KILLED THE THREAD

HAPPY FRIDAY THE 13th!

Lisa

No, you didn't!
Our boys finished school on Tuesday, so between working full time and having them around, I'm going crazy. On top of DH still not being allowed to do anything in the house cause of recuperating from his surgery. I miss having him doing the laundry. ::yes::

Have fun with Mason this weekend! Hope he enjoyed his first week of camp.

Nope...not a thread killer at all. Things have just been very busy for us too.

Happy Friday the 13th everyone!

Happy Father's Day to all you Disney Dads. Hope you are enjoying your weekend. ::yes::

BTW, I found out the other day, when we purchased our trip insurance that we do in fact have early dining. DH is happy bout it though. I am on the fence about it. Guess will just see how it works out.

Also, have a trip to DW planned for this december and had purchased great airfaire from Airtran through Travelocity bout a month ago and read in yesterdays paper that their last flight is September 3rd:faint: so guess I get to spend some time on the phone tommorrow. :furious: Anyone else have any problems like this before? Hope they come up with another game plan for us as I could not afford to book another flight right now or loose all that money, especially with the rising cost of everything. :worried:

Well, thanks for letting me rant and vent. Just sometimes it's not my day.

Dinner time is one of personal preference, but...early can be a royal pain when considering shore excursions or even the sailaway party and if we do the dinner link again, and i anticipate that, it will definitely be late seating especially since most on this thread, including all those from 2005 and 2007 are late seating.

Hello Turkeys !

Hope everyone is well. Off the boards for a while, while we finished up 3rd grade. Lindsey and I headed off for a couple of weeks to horse camp and are now back.

Wanted to tell everyone how great this thread is. We are leaving for a 4 day double dip this weekend, and the thread is dead!!! We are trying to put together a meet, but it is doubtful. We had about 20 posts total.

It won't be the same without you guys. We are looking forward to trying to post live like Chuck. (I will try)

Hope everyone is well. Starting to count down the days until the Turkey return on the MAGIC.

Lisa

Hey Lisa- Thanks for the plug (and compliment) let me know where to send the check.

Please don't call me a "former" turkey. I still consider myself a turkey, I just can't seem to swing another Thanksgiving cruise on the Magic. But, there is time! :)

If anyone wants to see how a turkey rolls, check out my TR:

I'm not sure about the "witty" writing, but there are at least some funny photos!

Hope everyone is doing well for a Tuesday Night.

I am going to try to email Chuck to see how to post live from the Wonder. The boats now have wireless internet access.

Hi Wendy! I wish we were going with you all! Andrew says to tell Lindsey hi. We still need to get together....maybe sometime in July or September. I remember the colors being gorgeous in WV in the fall....maybe we'll just have to come out that way!

Karen:

July or August are both open. Hope we can work it out Lindsey would love to see Andrew.

Hope that you guys are doing OK. I have heard that the flooding in your area has been bad in some parts.

PS: Hope Andrew is enjoying his summer. He told us that a cousin or friend was staying with him this summer and he was looking forward to it.

Wendy

Hi Wendy,

Flooding is very bad but it is mostly north of St. Louis. In St. Louis (where the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers meet), the flooding is not nearly as bad as it was in 1993. We live well up on the bluffs and if our home flooded, I'd be looking for an Ark for us all (hmmm...wonder if we could get the Magic for that duty?)!

Andrew is being spoiled rotten this summer by getting to swim at home all the time and see movies and go places. He told me last summer that he was sick of camps and never wanted to do another one. So, we're really lucky this summer to have our niece Caitlin to watch him while I work. So far, it seems to be going very well. They're at the Arch today looking at the floods and taking in a really nice view of things.

Glad to hear that you are well. I'll PM you and see if we can find a date for getting together. Hope you guys have a great trip and we can't wait to hear (and read) all about it.

Wendy - posting live is easy, though feel free to email me. This spring i paid the fee and could use my laptop or the ship's computers interchangeably. The laptop was easier to use in the atrium than in the cabins though it will work there, just sometimes more slowly on the connection.

Then just go to Cruise reports and start a thread.

The Wonder Disboard threads tend to pale consistently compared with the longer Magic cruises presumably b/c they are shorter. Check July 4th for us. Although there may be 90 or so posts, nearly 60 are from the same person, and she recently moved to the west coast (of the US, not of Florida) and is no longer going. So a meet? I doubt it, even though the ship is nearly full now.

Chuck:cool1:

And depending on when you all are heading to see the Mouse, there is a possibility we could get up there too if on a weekend since we are only 3 hours away.

Hello Turkey Gang!
I am thinking of going on the 2009 Thanksgiving cruise and trying to talk my Brother, SIL, Mom Dad and other family members into joining us.
You sound like you've been here before so could you please help me out with some answers?
How many folks dress up for pirate night? (I really want to make them all nice costumes)
How dressy is Thanksgiving?
Is there anything else I need to know that's special about this cruise. Something I should warn/talk up to the family?
Thanks Heaps.

Hi Patsy!

You've picked a wonderful cruise to join in on! I cruised with a number of the returning '09 Turkey Day Gang group in '07 and they are a ton of fun (very nice and helpful too!).

Lots of folks dress up for pirate night...and costumes range from elaborate to basic (black t-shirt, bandana, eye patch). While I understand wanting to bring an elaborate costume, remember that you are limited to 2 pieces of luggage per person (to check) and you have to store all those suitcases in your stateroom somewhere!

I can't remember if Thanksgiving is the formal night or the semi-formal night. I'm sure someone else will know. I do remember that this cruise had a formal night and a semi-formal night. For formal night, some of the mean had tuxes and some had suits. Others just had coat and tie with dress pants. For women it ranged from formal gowns to nice "church" dresses or dressy pantsuits. For the kids -- boys were either in tuxes or coat and tie or just tie with nicer pants (no jeans) -- girls had on everything from "fancy" (or twirly dresses as my nieces called them) to just nice church dresses or sun dresses.

So, what's special about this cruise. Well -- 1) the Turkey Day Gang is special :thumbsup2 ; 2) You don't have to eat turkey on Thanksgiving (sorry, but I don't like turkey) :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 ; 3) The ship is decked out with Christmas decorations (great for your Christmas cards); 4) Castaway Cay is also decorated for Christmas -- wonderful Christmas card photo op there!; 5) It's just a ton of fun ::yes:: !

In '07 those that were on the disboards (and wanted them) had special t-shirts made so that we could all find each other (they were lime green...I'll see if I can find the design...I was the coordinator for the shirts in '07). A lot of us did "Fish Extenders" which are little pocket like things that hang from the fish outside your door...we ran around and placed small trinkets in the fish extenders -- these items ranged from candy to cards to pirate stuff (one of our gang in '07 works for the Pittsburgh Pirates and had great pirate stuff :thumbsup2 ). Chuck (aka Icemanpad) linked up the dinner reservations of those of us who had late dining so that we all sat near one another at dinner (thanks again for that Chuck!). Most of our kids got to know one another fairly well and ran together on the ship (which made it really nice for them -- and for us).

All in all, this is a great group to cruise with. Very nice, very friendly, and very comfortable people. Which is why we started this thread nearly 2 years before our cruise!

Hope this helps.
