Turkey Day Gang 2009

Hello to everyone. My family and I will be first time cruisers, and sailing on the Magic in "09" with all of you. I am hoping to gather some helpful information on these boards over the coming months. I am a planner by nature, but this cruise does seem so far away....:)

Welcome, fellow Pennsylvanian! :)

Chuck,

Right now I am 3 blocks from the Ocean City, NJ beach! AT WORK :confused3

The last 2 times I was on the beach was in Zangle' Haiti on a missions trip 3/07,

and Castaway on our Dec 2006 4day!:lmao:

Welcome CrewM6! Glad to have you coming along. My family joined the Turkey Day Gang last year (and it was our first ever Disney cruise too). There's lots of information to be had. Most of us have kids...I have a DS who's now 9 (soon to be 10) and will be 11 by the time we cruise in 09.

What about you...any kids?

Sigh....Lisa, I know what you mean about the I'm too excited to sleep! We're so looking forward to the cruise now.

Last night we were up and down all night waiting to see if this "monster" snow we were supposed to get came. When we last checked at 6 a.m. there was nothing outside...Now at 10 a.m. we hae about 6 inches outside. Guess the NWS was right...we're going to get 10+ inches before 3 today.

Hi Wendy,

They may well be platinum (or crude oil) by the time Andrew goes to college! It's definitely a big factor in staying where there is no beach!

Hope you all are well.

Karen

Karen:

All is well with us. Just busy. We in West Virginia are making up quite of few snow days which has put a wrinkle in a few plans.

We are looking forward to our Double Dip in June. That thread is really dead, maybe it will pick up closer to the sail date.

Wendy

Hi Wendy,

I bought a new scrapbook toy yesterday called a Cricut. It's really wonderful. I bought the Disney cartridge (imagine that) and will have to send you some Disney stuff for all those trips you will now be taking as a DVC member.

Glad you all are well. Andrew is making up some of the snow days, but we're still getting out the Friday before Memorial Day and I think we'll head to see some sand and water after school gets out!

Karen

Karen:

I can't wait to hear about your new toy. It sounds really cool. We are looking forward to our Spring Break trip. We all really need some "Magic" the winter drags on.

We will be visting the Kingdom in late June... I will have to read back and see when you are heading down.. I thought it was in July.

Wendy

Thanks Wendy for the new DVC information. It will be nice to have a vacation club property at the Contemporary. Our home resort in Saratoga, but we've actually never stayed there. Except for Hilton Head, I've never had a problem booking time at one of the other resorts. I'm also looking forward to the Hawaii property. I bet the points for that one will be outrageous!!

Jodie

We're trying (ourselves) to figure out when we're going to visit the Mouse. We originally planned to go over 4th of July since we're losing our summer nanny at that time. Unfortunately, Steve and I both have work stuff then so we thought we might go the last 2 weeks of August...just before school starts. Yep, it will be hot and humid there, but it's hot and humid here then too.

Short answer is, we're still up in the air!

Karen

Wendy: is there only one double dip in June? if so, I know some other people who will be on your boat.

Chuck:cool1:

Thanks for the welcome. Sorry I haven't responded sooner. We have 4 kids - they'll be ages 8 to 16 when we cruise. We've decided not to tell them about the cruise yet. It's too far away, and I'd be getting questions all of time from my youngest. I looked at other cruise lines, but really felt DCL was more family oriented. I liked the idea of no gambling on the ship. Since it will be our first cruise, I think even my two teens will have a great time. Luckily, they're the types that enjoy family vacations no matter where we go. This will be a treat for all of us.

In the coming months I'll be checking the boards for tips on planning. I know I'll need to get passports for the kids, gather information on the ports/excursions, plan flights, etc. Any suggestions you all could offer will be appreciated. I have kind of put all of this is on the back burner until the trip gets closer. Thanks again! I'll try to check back periodically.:)

hiya all ~ page three - NOOOO way - gotta bounce to the front.

So we are in limbo land right now - do we do a VR or do we do AKL for 4days - I am leaning toward AKL - and trying to find a place on the islands to do a small ceremony - but have no idea where to look for that - :sigh:

Only 120 days till my midwest vacation in the sun and water :) we will go to St. George Utah for two days - Zion for two days - Bryce Canyon (ATV'ing through Bryce ) for two days - then house boating for 8 days then Vegas for two days - but only 20 months till Disney -

so has anyone done AKL before or after the cruise - any tips?

Hey guys. Is anyone interested in selling/transferring DVC points to us? We are planning a big trip for April 09 and need a minimum of 225 more points. It would need to be someone who has Saratoga as their home resort since I'll need to book 11 months out.

Let me know if anyone is interested, and we can work out the details. Thanks!! :goodvibes

I'm gonna post on the "buy/sell" board, but thought I'd start here first.

Jodie

Good morning everyone ~

Only 20 months till vacation ::SIGH::

Well I did it - I decided that we would do AKL for sure for 11/16-11/20....Yahoo.....

BUT.....ALSO.... :scared1:

I am GETTING MARRIED TOO!!! hehehe - Vow Renewal in the plan for 10am on 11/24 on a St. Maarten Beach. I wanted 10 am so that I can still enjoy the island and with the plan I am getting for the wedding vows - I am adding in a island tour. Then when we get back to the Magic I will have a small cake brought to the table after dinner for DH and I to cut and do a toast with....... This way I get the best of ALL worlds...

AKL - my dream wedding (again) - an Island Tour - and a kinda of reception on the Magic ( just our regular dinner with a cake - eheh )

:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Congrats Lisa....sounds like a wonderful plan!

In 07 DH and I took a tour of the galley and they had some lovely cakes prepared for special occasions. You might want to check into that. One was a cake that had white icing (or fondant, I'm not sure which) with a lovely Mickey and Minnie wedding topper.

Now....20 more months to wait....

Hello~

I was wondering - at St. Maarten does the Magic tender or pull up to a dock?

If it is tender - how do we get off if we do not have an excursion planned ? I am having Vow Renewals done at 10 am on a beach in St. Maarten and just need to plan this out...

Thnx Rob/Priscella for your post on the March 29, 2007 Magic thread. We will of course create a live thread for that week at sea.

:scared1: Hey all we were on page 3 - eek

so has anyone been to the ports we are going to and can answer my question about tendering ?

thank you

Hi all -

Thought I'd check in. I'm still not sure my ticker is working...

My parents just arrived in Florida to spend Easter with my sister's family, but they're hitting Disney today first, (its in the blood I tell you). Unfortunately, I'm still here in Maryland where its very pretty looking but still chilly outside and feeling very envious. Before the kids hit school age we used to visit 3-4 times a year but now we don't have any plans until this cruise.:sad2: I'm having trouble with this fact and may have to plan something for next summer to tide me over. But I'm not sure I can make it that long. Is there a long weekend around Halloween maybe?

We did take the kids skiing in Feb and had a great time- just at a local place in PA for the weekend. We didnt get helmets this year but will have to next year. My son is ready for the black diamonds - yikes- and dh wouldn't let him try w/o one. Thank goodness. I think the older kids are already better than me.

I saw Lisa's wedding renewal and AK plans and thats VERY exciting.

Also, I didn't know there were tours of the kitchen- that sounds like fun.

Does anyone else have a passporter on order? I keep checking on the order and it says 3/25 so I'm really looking forward to that.

One last question -has anyone ever seen a picture of Mickey dressed like a turkey? I found a pilgrim mickey but no turkey. Maybe its too unbecoming for my favorite mouse?

For those of you celebrating this weekend - Happy Easter!
