Turkey Day Gang 2009

2401 -99 more to 2500

Both of DSs want to know if there is a place to get a smoothie on board that they won't have to pay for.

I haven't been to Pikesville in a while. . Our DS 5 is named Mason as well!

Anyone doing the Golden Catamaran @ 8:15am in St. Marteen? We just signed up!

We've booked this as well. I am hoping there is time for a little shopping in town afterwards.

Hi all,

We just saw photos of Trunk Bay in Andrew's Boy's Life Magazine. Is Magen's Bay as pretty?

Karen, I loved your tip on baby powder to get sand off easier!!! Wished I knew that this past weekend when I went back to see my parents. I grew up 45 miles south of Tampa and used to go to the beach all the time. So when I went back, I went to the same beach I've always went to. They have powder sand so it is very easy to get it all over you.

TEN WEEKS from this Saturday and the Magic is all our's!!!:cool1::thumbsup2:banana:

Just chiming in from the weekend....

Was having a great, quiet, relaxing weekend when I came home yesterday to find my 12 year old Australian Shepherd struggling to breath. Of course my DH was gone on his motorcycle and the vet wasn't open. I had to rush him to the emergency animal hospital in the next county. I had decided on the way that this was it and I didn't want him to suffer anymore:sad1:. Once they gave him a sedative to try to relax him, his poor heart just stopped. I had him for almost 13 years and he was my baby long before I had kids. My heart is broken right now and I definitely need this cruise to help me get through the day! I was so tired of crying last night and I kept telling myself "think about the cruise" over and over again to get my mind off of it. Sorry to post a sad note, but my heart is definitely heavy today.:sad2:

Lynn
Lynn,

I am very sorry to hear about your dog. I have a 7 year old German Shepherd who means the world to me so I know how hard this must be for you.

My heart goes out to you. Cherish the memories.

Karen - I'm assuming Andrew is a Boy Scout? Logan is currently finishing up his Eagle Scout project. My DH found out that there is a Boy Scout council in St. Thomas, so we plan on stopping there to see if we can purchase some patches.

Hmmmmm......maybe any of you with Cub/Boy Scouts would like to participate in a patch trade? Let me know!

I have to get you with DGD. He retired/ quit working for the Scouts this summer. He went to Indiana this summer for a camp. He is going to Fort AP Hill next summer. He has been to multiple World Jamborees and is going to the next one. He will definitely want to meet you (with patches, I am sure). Send me a PM with your email, and I can forward it to him. My mom will die if I tell him there is a scout shop there, but I bet he already knows. My dad will kill me if I don't tell him. I think you just made my Dad's cruise:) BTW, my son has a lot of pressure on him (DS is 5) because DH and DGD are both Eagle Scouts.

Random answers to random questions...

1. Magen's Bay is pretty but pales in comparison to Trunk Bay which is breathtaking.

2. Magen's Bay on your own is easy -- take the ship's towels AND RETURN them (you'd be amazed at how many Carnival towels are left on shore). I can't answer the swim vest question, though.

3. Smoothies are free some nights during limited hours in both the Stack and the Quest. Really, after all of the cherry filled shirley temples I find that the kids forget about the smoothies (and DCL does not push them the way other cruiselines do.)

4. I can honestly say I've never even heard of Wash U... I'm a Northern girl so it wasn't on my radar.

Ok, so work is super busy crazy and my employees are driving me nuts and my co-worker has H1N1 and, wah, I need a cruise :worship:

Hi Laura,

Andrew finished as a Webelo last year and decided not to go forward with Boy Scouts. Steve was the Cubmaster here and while we appreciate what the scouts do...we found that our Council's expectations of volunteers was overwhelming! The straw that broke the camels back for me personally was when they told me what I had to do to "keep my job as the Chartered Organizational Representative!" Excuse me....I'm a volunteer and I'm doing the best I can...if it isn't good enough (when I'd already worked 40+ hours on the project)...well, I'm pretty sure you can imagine where I said they could go (and take their long knee socks with them!).

I know that not every Council is this way and I don't mean to berate the scouts as a whole...it's just that our Council is a bit too much into their uniforms and knee socks (they kinda treat it like another branch of the military around here) and treated me like a private in their military.

Next idea....take ziploc bags with you in a variety of sizes! We usually pack some quart, gallon and 2 gallon bags with us. The quart ones are great for little things...the gallon works for we suits and the 2 gallons work for wet beach towels!

I can't wait for the cruise!!!!!

Sherry - I will send you our email! I know my DH and DS like to trade council strip patches and OA flaps. My DS will be at the Jamboree next summer at Fort AP Hill, too! I'm sure my DH would love to sit and chat with your dad for a while on the cruise. :)

Karen, that's too bad that your council is that strict. I hate it when stuff like that happens and ruins a good thing. :(

Next tip....take your Sam's (BJs or Costco) card with you and use that to open and close the in room safe!

Hey Chuck, Lisa, and Mason guess who is booked on the cruise??

:rotfl2::rotfl2:We understand if we cannot participate in anything as you have planned this for two years and we booked tonight :rotfl::rotfl:

When I get back from my conference in lovely walt disney respot area I will send Lisa those pictures and tell you about John's trip to the Wonder.

Should know tomorrow if Crystal is able to book and then Mason will still have her to hang with :)

To all others we are happy to join in another Turkey Day Gang sailing and look forward on reading up on all the posts so far....it is like a novel....we love the holiday spirit of the Thanksgiving Cruise and are happy to be going.

I just added our info this morning....
This will be our first time in an FE group. My kids will love it! Now the hunt begins for the perfect gift.....

I think Disney is done with me. Since booking this cruise about 10 days ago, I have changed our rooms 5 times! But now I am done :thumbsup2

This will be our 6th disney cruise, but maybe our last. We did the Freedom of the Seas in July and hope to do the Oasis next summer. Since we are a large family, unless disney is having an awesome sale it is difficult to do. We usually only have a few small window to book a cruise: July, Thanksgiving and Christmas due to my oldest daughters committments. This really limits us from a cruise standpoint. Plus my extended family trys to come every few years, and I end up helping them pay for it.

Since my wee ones are getting older (yougest set being 5 1/2, with one getting her first loose tooth yesterday!), they are old enough to start to enjoy other things. Even thought I LOVE disney, we were very happy on the FOS. No question Disney blows them away with many things, they did a pretty good job with alot as well.

Maybe when my oldest goes off to college in a few years and we are back to a family of 5 we can look at Disney again. Hey that will be the new boats! She goes to college in the fall of 2011.

When will those sail dates come out? Maybe I can book a dummy date on board?

Anyway so excited to be here and so excited about our cruise!
Irene

Welcome Michelle! We are new to the turkey gang as well as cruising. Here's the link for the FE exchange.

Irene - the 2011 information is being released today. I'm sure there will be plenty of threads here on the Dis the second they are reported.

Hi everybody,

I added Irene and her family today. I look forward to hearing from Michelle as well.

Take care.

Awhile back I posted a question about dining rotations. There used to be a way to figure out what you'd likely get. I passed the question on to a friend who just seems to know everything about DCL...here's her response - i thought it might be helpful to some of you.

First, DCL recently made a change to seating times... no more staggered seating. Early is 5:45 and late is 8:15.

Eastern rotations are now: LAPLAPL, APLAPLA, & PLAPLAP.

The actual assignment used to be very predictable to where those with little kids would start in Animator's Palate, those with teens would start in Parrot Cay, and parties with adults-only would start in Lumiere's. Unfortunately, this is no longer true so...

If you booked direct through DCL, I would recommend emailing or calling to request which of these you would prefer. If you are booked thru a travel agent, just ask them to put in your request. I requested a rotation last time and it was granted... and I've actually never heard of them denying a request!

This may be helpful:

<< Typical Eastern Special Theme Schedule - per recent navigators [Please note these can be changed at DCL's discretion.]
Saturday - Rotation Menu [AP show for APL rotation]
Sunday - Golden Mickeys Menu [Formal Night]
Monday - Rotation Menu [AP show for PLA rotation]
Tuesday - Pirate Menu
Wednesday - Rotation Menu [AP show for LAP rotation]
Thursday - Captain's Gala Menu [Semiformal Night]
Friday - Till We Meet Again Menu >>
