Turkey Day Gang 2009

Oh I added to the FE list thank you.....and we are excited as we saw that platinum castaway members get a free meal at Palo...yummy!!!

I work at Washington University (or Wash U as many call it). Oh, and no...it's not in Washington State or Washington DC...it's officially called Washington University in St. Louis. It's a private university (with an astronomical tuition) that's actually ranked very highly (even if people still ask is St. Louis near Seattle?).

And Chuck, it's not in bad taste (though GermX can taste bad from what I understand)...it does put a whole new spin on Wash U! (Actually some of the kids have put stickers on the hand sanitizers already saying "I'll Wash U!")

Take care everyone. Hope the germies stay away from everyone!

Karen

Do you know Dr. Valerie Ratts at Wash U? She is a professor there that I know.

We've booked this as well. I am hoping there is time for a little shopping in town afterwards.

Awesome! It's good to know that I'll know someone ahead. Our whole family is going. Is your whole crew going too?

Michelle:

Welcome to the group.. It is going to be a great week.

BTW How do you become a platinum castaway member? Sounds pretty fancy.....

Again Welcome...

Here's the latest FE blog news.

I've added Michelle/cruisecrzy - When your room number turns up let me know and I'll add it.

I've corrected Irene's room number. It was probably my fault. I was trying to FE blog, countdown to the 12pm announcement, tweet, and pretend to work all at the same time. :surfweb:

Catch y'all on the flip side.

Myself, DH, DS (12) DD (11). We are traveling with another family but I don't think they are doing this excursion.

I'm looking forward to it!

Les

We will have to decide what items we would like in the mini navigator.

Our several meet times.

Time for possible group photo...

NAME ( & Disboard Name)

Stateroom # and family members

We can denote those that are particpating in the FE list.

This has always been a help to me, in case I forget someones name.

Everything is open.....

We can post special occasions also....

1 to Less than 5 cruises is a silver member
5-10 is a gold member
more than 10 is a plantinum memeber

Then each level gets their own benefits including a different CC gift per level. My letter said that the new CC gifts and reward programs will start Oct. 3

Not a problem...it will probably be more like November when is assigned.

Thanks for including us

So with all this GREAT news yesterday - does that mean we will MAYBE get a NEW CC gift? not the travel bag?

How many of you are planning on the Alaska Trip?

Karen - I'm assuming Andrew is a Boy Scout? Logan is currently finishing up his Eagle Scout project. My DH found out that there is a Boy Scout council in St. Thomas, so we plan on stopping there to see if we can purchase some patches.

Hmmmmm......maybe any of you with Cub/Boy Scouts would like to participate in a patch trade? Let me know!

That sounds like fun! I didn't think about swapping scout patches on the cruise. I'll check our store here to find out about what we have local to swap. I don't know as much about cub/boy scouts since I'm not the leader of my son's den but I should really check out to see if they have a version of Girl Scouts or Girl Guides in St Thomas too since I'm the leader for a cadette troop and a daisy troop.

That's a great idea.

Paula - sounds good! I know my DH and DS like to collect the different Council Strip Patches and also Order of the Arrow flaps. I don't think you can purchase OA flaps yet though until your DS belongs to it.

I'm a co-leader for my DD's Senior troop. I looked online and it looks they also have an office in St. Thomas. I tried to send them an email but the email isn't valid anymore. I'll look into that some more.

We need to add a Scout patch swap time to the navigator! :)

Has anyone done this excursion or thinking about doing it on this trip at St. Thomas?

In St Martin we are headed to Orient Beach. Just there in July and it is so beautiful. Rented two chairs and an umbrella. I think we stayed about 3 1/2 hours. We just take a cab from the port and when we are done we picked up another cab back to town. Did alittle shopping and back to the ship.

Yes, there are new cc club gifts coming out Oct 3 according to the cc website. And your gifts will be different for each level.

Mine will be on the SILVER level as this will be my third cruise - everyone will have to show what they get :)

I was wondering about the Trunk Bay thing too. I'm wondering if we do Trunk Bay if there will be any time to shop in St. Thomas? I'm still (bwa ha ha...evil laugh) trying to figure out how much Steve will have to pay...

Happy Saturday everyone!

Just chiming in... a couple of pages back was a hint to bring a non credit-card type card for your room safe. Not needed anymore as the safes were replaced on the Magic with ones that have numeric keypads - you choose your own 4 digit #.

The Alaska cruise announcement is very exciting, but I, too, have trepidation over the potential prices... who knows how high they will be? Certainly not "Mediterranean/Baltic" high, but it could be.

I am excited for a new CC gift; hopefully it is of at least equal quality as the bag & goodies in it. I'd hate for the "silver" cruisers like ourselves to end up with some chintzy stuff!!! I'm sure we will see postings in the beginning of October with what the gifts are.

I was an extra in a photo shoot yesterday -- the back of my blonde head and my back (in a lovely black cocktail dress) might be appearing in a national ad soon! Can I say how boring it was to just sit there at a cocktail lounge and pretend to be having a conversation and fake laughing? (No, this is not what I do for a living but we were doing a shoot for work and needed some extras and since $$ is tight, I volunteered to take one for the team.)

I also played my first game of Bunco last night -- with 11 of the loudest, laughingest women you ever met. It was NYC/9/11 themed (NYC pizza, knishes, hot pretzels and black & white cookies from the Jewish bakery - YUM). I won the prizes for highest # of Buncos (4) and 2nd highest # of wins. YAHOO! :cool1:

That's all the news from Orlando. (and DD is yelling at me to get off the computer...)

Why does everyone think alaska is going to be pricey?

It seems we canucks always pay more than you americans on these cruises but I can't see a reason that alaska will be super extra pricey for you. Maybe the airfare?...which we pay an outrageous amount for from here also...even when it's on sale.UG!

Still...it's not enough to keep me home...almost...but not!

Why does everyone think alaska is going to be pricey?

Because DCL doesn't have a history of low prices! :rotfl:

Hello, you chatty Turkeys! I typically check in every few days. A few months ago it was still easy to keep up. Lately, y'all have been chatting like crazy! I'm way behind!

My first week as a working mom went pretty well. Last week was training; this coming week I report to my school and spend time getting acclimated. By the following week, I'll be starting the screening process to see if any of the newly registered students will need "literacy intervention" (aka extra help with reading skills). Isn't it funny that with each new job comes new vocabulary?? I am looking forward to meeting the kids and getting to know the teachers.

I'm a little sad to learn that I am only Silver status for the new CC. This will be our 3rd DCL and honestly, I'm not sure when we'll fit in 2 more to earn Gold! :confused3 But in general, I think the program is a good idea.

Fellow scouts parents -- it never occurred to me to swap patches! My DD10 is a Junior in GS and would love to swap with any other GS on board. Maybe I'll prompt her to ask on the kids thread.

Donna, my Bunco group fell apart about a year ago -- I miss it! I'd welcome a friendly Bunco game with our fellow Turkeys (especially with drinks in hand...)! Who else knows Bunco (or would like to learn)? :confused3

Hope everyone has a great weekend! :woohoo:

That is too funny that two of you have mentioned Bunco! I've been thinking that it would be a fun activity to plan one late morning or afternoon! My family loves to get together to play. The louder, the better! :lmao:
