Turkey Day Gang 2009 Thread #2

I still haven't got definite answer about FEs.......with 138 people you obviously aren't buying something for each person for 7 days of the cruise so

1) what are you buying?
2) how do you decide which cabins to hit when?

I'm planning on coming for bunco training. Looking forward to it.

We have stuff set up for four deliveries total. We go when we have time. We put a few items into bags. We were going to do one bi item per stateroom, but with 38 rooms we have decided against it as it was too hard to make that many.

We will be among the last to leave to start our journey - probably about 10am next Saturday!!!

1) Is anyone staying at a hotel near the port on Friday night before the cruise? I know quite a few offer free shuttle to the pier and you can leave your car at the hotel for the week. Good idea or more of a pain in butt?

2) FE........General run down of what everyone does? We live in the Central Florida Area so we have access to a lot of things Disney so quick idea list would be nice.

1. Hiya -- I am flying out of NH this weekend - and staying in Orlando for the week before the cruise :) We are going to stay at the Hyatt hte night before the cruise and meet up with my sister and her husband as they will be flying in that Friday. We are taking the Disney Shuttle to the port :) I have heard there are many good places to leave your car - but sorry I have not done that....

2. FE - I did a bag per room - a few trinkets in each bag and one homemade gift. I shipped a box of FE gifts to my cousin who lives in FL so all my stuff should ( SHOULD !) safely be in Orlando waiting for me when I arrive this weekend.... if they are ruined then I guess I will be rushing to do FE bags again :scared1:

My DD is about your children's age so they should all be in the Stack together :)

To answer question #1: We are staying at the Country Inn and Suites. I have always drove to the port and will do so again. I like the fact that when we get back our car is right there and I can load the luggage and go.

Charlie

we don't get there until evening also. are you taking the shuttle? any idea what time it leaves.

last year we stayed at the airport and took the disney shuttle...what time does everyone recommend getting to the port and why?

No we have a rentail car from the airport and will return it in Port Caneveral. I usually drop off the wife and kid and luggages at the port and go return the car Saturday morning. This way I can avoid the hotel crowd and take the rental car shuttle back to the port. It's easy to fit one person in the shuttle with no luggages.

Lisa, hope you have a great time. Also I hope that everyone who is traveling makes it safely.

Lisa, Chuck & Mason -- have fun at the Bar Mitzvah. I'm sure Mason will be taking lots of notes - his will be here before you know it. Glad to hear you're feeling better too. Take it easy!

Sherri: if Mason manages to sit thru most of the Bar Mitzvah it will be a miracle - and this is a reform synogogue we are talking about so the service is (for him at least) mercifully short.

I made something for each of the girls on the list and then I have something for each cabin (geared more for the kids). I may have something for the adults if I can get it made... although I'm starting to run out of time :scared1:

Hiya all -- Happy Friday the 13th --

I have an ear infection - yahoo yahoo - :thumbsup2
Ya think I need this right now? well anyway - got into the ER real fast!! in and out with in a HALF HOUR -- all time record. Doc stated that the right ear is pinkish but as I am leaving tomorrow he did not want to risk it and gave me some medicine to bring with me..

Did anyone notice that we now have SPELL CHECK ON here? I typed a word wrong and it underlines it in red to tell me to "fix it silly"

:3dglasses

Car is packed - three 45 pd pieces of luggage ready to rock and roll :)

Finally settling in after a long day of work. Having a glass of wine and figured I would check in.

I hope everyone traveling has a nice, safe trip.

Chuck, Lisa and Mason have a great time at the Bar Mitzvah.

To everyone going to MVMCP - Enjoy, you are going to have so much fun.

To everyone staying at the Radisson Friday night, we will see you at the pool bar. :dance3:

Have a great weekend everyone!

Lisa, I read that (quickly) and thought OMG! 45 pieces of luggage!!! :rotfl:

I can tell it's Fri the 13th... we lost power late afternoon Thurs thanks to the storm, so this AM I put DD10's meds in the freezer in an effort to keep them cool since the power had been off over 12 hours.

Well, I FORGOT I put it in there and, lo and behold, the power came back on! That's a good thing! :thumbsup2 But, guess what? Frozen medicine = bad. :headache: So, I spent over 4 hours today paging Drs and waiting on phone calls since Drs offices were closed today due to the storm. Fortunately the pharmacy had power, but we were all waiting to hear from the Dr. Apparently, it was a crazy day for her, too.

WHEW! I'm just thankful we were able to get DD her meds before bed. Sorry to report, though, that she still has a fever....

Good vibes to all!!!:grouphug:

I just had a bad thought... might there be families on the cruise who hang FE's but aren't on this board? I have the EXACT number of stuff to hand out and would feel really bad for those other folks.

Just have to say again - WOW - I go to work & miss the boards for 2 days and I'm 9 pages behind!

Lynn - I hope things work out with the DH. I've heard some stories too. It can be hard.

Sherri - I have enough bracelets for your family - my bil cancelled and you can have his - I'll try to remember them Sunday.

Have fun at the Bar Mitzva IceFamily!

Laura - I can't make bunko at 3 on monday -Would love to but I have a spa appt. I'll try to change it once we board. If you schedule more than one session I will definitely be there though.

I have an ear infection -

OH No! Tell everyone to be HEALTHY!! ...and Sweet!

So....I just got an email from grants.gov announcing that there is a significant modification to the HUD 202 applications! WTH.....they're due tomorrow and now...at 7 p.m. tonight they announce a modification!!!!! ARRRRGGGGHHHHHHHHH! I am way beyond annoyed.

The only up side to it all is that they have extended the deadline to December 14...so, now....I get to deal with the HUD grants again when I get back from vacation.

Karen

That's ok - you can do it!!! Just forget about it for a week - You've been working too hard.

Alright. Done creating the name tags. Now just waiting for the Avery labels to arrive tomorrow and I can start printing. So far 130 names. Here's a sample:

Chun - these are fantastic! Can't wait.

Welcome Kim & group!

Oh, now you want in on the FE's... I've only been talking them up to you for a year and a half!!! Some people may not be able to exchange with you b/c they have sealed and shipped their FE gifts or have run out of supplies (as I have). You'll need an actual Fish Extender (which I offered to make you a year ago...

:rotfl: Oh just too funny!!!

Hello,

Very late to the date. Have been prepping for the cruise for months and have only recently been lurking the disboards. Going on the T-Day cruise with missjudit and her family. Question on the FE group? What exactly is it? I signed up on the list (google doc)....hopefully I didn't purchase a plot of land in Kenya :rotfl: Anyway, first cruise for family so alot of this stuff is new....please be gentle.

Patrick Mondor

Hey! Welcome! About time y'all joined in! We have one gift for the family then dd12 has a gift for the older girls, ds9 has a gift for the boys and dd5 has a gift for the younger girls. We had extras so we should be ok with the addons.

One drink they cannot make on the ship is a good frozen rum runner...trust me i learned that the hard way.

Chuck:cool1:

OH - my - gosh - I thought it was just me - this is totally true! I'm very picky about my rum runners. Its seriously the best drink ever invented.

Night y'all that was a fun 9 pg read to catch up . Can't believe 7 days from now I'll be on a train somewhere in north carolina probably....

Good morning TURKEY DAY GANG!!
