Microwaving works really well. If I want to render some down, I will add a very small amount of canola oil to the fry pan and that gets it beautiful and crispy brown.
I am not sure what brand I use as I get what's on sale. I think it cooks up far crispier than regular bacon due to less fat. I do mine on a griddle pan. I hate regular bacon now after having turkey bacon most of my life. Regular is too fatty for me now.
