Turbo Tax

Just wondering has anyone used this and how was it to use. We have had an accountant do our taxes and pay quite a bit. Someone mention I should get Turbo Tax because it is easy to use.

Our accountant made a pretty big mistake on our 2007 taxes, so I am thinking of buying this at Costco.

The only thing I have never dealt with before, is DH is deployed so his pay is not taxed. I am guessing it will be listed that way on his W-2

I have used turbo tax for years and find it very easy to do.

I have been using Turbo Tax for years. I have never had a problem. I don't have any weird deductions or income sources. Just the house, the kids and DVC. Only income is DH. I don't know how it would work if I had investments or owned my own business.

If you are military, you can get Turbo tax for free online. I have used it for the past threee years. It wasn't super easy, but it wasn't too complicated either.

We have used it for years, also. It is very straightforward. I freelance and have to file a Schedule C. That seems to take the most time, even with Turbo Tax.

If your husband is in the mil, then you should be able to get turbo tax for FREE. Do a google search on military turbo tax discount. This is how we get it every year. And I love using TT... it's so easy.

I have used TT for a good number of years, it is excellent, IMO. I use the Home and Business version, schedule C and 1099's to produce.

Why buy the boxed version from a store? Unless you have any really crazy tax situations the online version should be fine.

I have used Turbo Tax for a few years now and I love it. It is very easy and it stores all of last years info to put into this years returns.

IMHO you should find an accountant that specializes in Military families. Tax filings for that can be tricky, especially if you are living in another state than your "tax home". With DH being deployed that further complicates things. An accountant that specializes in military may be aware of deductions that you wouldn't think of.

It sounds like you just didn't have the right accountant. Try talking to some of the other military wives and see who they use. Once you find one that knows what he's doing, you'll be much better off.

sand, why does Intuit now suggest the deluxe version if you own a home, even though I see the basic version has the itemized deductions form? I also thought the basic edition was around $20 last year & now $29

I used to use Turbo Tax and really liked it. But the licensing is pretty restrictive - and can be a problem if you have to do multiple returns. My mother was part of my household for a few years when we were between homes and I needed to be able to do her taxes too (I still do but now she has to buy her own software). At the time Kiplingers Tax Cut (now HR Block Tax Cut) had much better licensing for preparing multiple returns so I switched to that. Now I keep using it because it is cheaper. If I could get Turbo Tax free like the OP, I would probably switch back!
