Tupperware party invite-How tacky!!

I was somewhat expecting an invitation for this party, as I had been told I was being invited and the person knew that I couldn't come. Well, today the invite comes and it's a little brochure with a flyer on top of it. The flyer has the host's name, the date, time, place, info about the party in general, that sort of thing. Well, parts of it are highlighted. The date, the RSVP line, some special offers, and this *GEM* "(If you are unable to attend, you may want to place an order OR have a party)" WHAT? It's even highlighted in a different color than the rest of the highlighting. I'll admit, I've never been invited to a Tupperware party, but I've been to other home parties and never seen anything like that. First of all, of course I'm not coming. It's on a Thursday night and I live over 4hrs away. Second of all, I just got married. I've never needed less Tupperware in my life! I have pretty much all the "home goods" stuff I'll need for the next 20 yrs! Ugh. Is that weird or normal for Tupperware?

I have not been to any kind of home parties in years! I am not sure if they are a big thing around here anymore! I would say that is tacky.

This is how Tupperware dealers have done it for years. The dealer sends the hostess a packet that has bunch of pamphlets and a sheet that the hostess puts her friends names on and addresses so the dealer can mail them out to invite you to the party at the hostesses home.
I haven't been to a party in a few years and I think that tupperware is way overpriced when I can go up to Target and buy a silmilar product for less than half the cost.

I hate it when one of my friends starts to sell something. I always feel so pressured to buy or host something. I'll buy, but I refuse to host. My house is always a train wreck, so I have the perfect excuse - too many baby toys all over the house!

Tupperware is really just about the only home show that I would WANT to go to. I like Tupperware because it holds up so well after many years, plus if you break it, they will replace it. I haven't been able to even find a Tupperware salesperson for YEARS!!!

As far as asking in advance if you would like to order if you can't attend or have your own show, I really don't mind. They ask you that in person anyway, so being written in advance isn't so bad.

Try not to be too hard on the demonstrators. Many of them are SAHM's trying to make a little extra $$. OK, OK I admit it...I was a demonstrator for a couple of years back when my kids were babies (Christmas Around the World). It was a hard job...lugging all those boxes, driving at night to places you don't know, worrying if you'd get another show booked...and my last year of doing it I was 8 1/2 months pregnant. Whew!

I personally like Rubbermaid just as well plus it's a lot less expensive. Also, there's someone selling Tupperware in our local mall. If it were me, I'd avoid this party too.

The hostess just gave a list of addresses to the Tupperware rep, so she's the one who highlighted that on the invitation. She may not know that you aren't going to be able to make it, and even if she did, she probably just wanted to let you know you can still order or hold a party if you want to. I've never hosted any of those parties, but a lot of people like to because you get free stuff. I think she was just trying to be helpful, and I'm sure she won't notice if you don't buy anything.

IMO, that is VERY normal for about every party I have been invited to but for you living over 4 hours away from the party.

Very common invite to a home party. Try not to take it personally.

Sounds pretty normal to me. Like previous posters have stated, that's the way they operate. Just throw it away and don't give it a second thought. Of course if you wanted to give the dealer a heart attack you could tell her you wanted her to host a party at your home! Can you imagine if she had to drive 4 hours to your house!

I also dislike "sale" parties but I don't think the invitation is tacky, just decline.

The only part I really thought was tacky was the highlighting, especially since this "catalog" is a joke compared to the types I've seen for most home parties. It has about 10 items total for regular guests, and about 20 for party hostesses. Like I said, I've been to tons of home parties, just not Tupperware parties, so maybe this is normal.

Glad to hear it did sound normal to the rest of you though...It would give her a heart attack if I wanted her to have one here for sure!

She would do it or sell the party to a consultant closer to you and make a small percentage of the sales. We have consultants that drive across state to do parties on a fairly regular basis.

Actually it is not an actual catalog but a teaser. The full line catalog is shown at the party. The flyer was just a few of the specials available.
And no it would not give the consultant a heart attack at all. Happens all the time.

I used to sell Tupperware (and currently Longaberger & Tastefully Simple) & the invite you got is a sampling of what they are offering.. to entice you to go... the consultant probably has no idea that you can't attend. They usually send some full catalogs to the hostess to distribute to friends who can't attend for some outside orders. If the Consultant were sending full catalogs to everyone it can be quite costly. She probably highlights everyones invite.. I would sometimes to 'highlight' specials & such... I don't do too many home parties anymore but would 'try' anything once to see what kind of things get responses to drum up business.

Like I said, it must just be me since I haven't been to a Tupperware home party. The CMs, purses, makeup, home decor, etc. ones have been different. I don't need to turn down the invite-the hostess knew when she invited me I wouldn't come. I do want to try to order something, but with only these few things I'm just not sure I can get anything. I looked on the website but only found a few things there as well.

Our little cul de sac used to do lots of different home parties. (Not so many now) And lots of times we would order even if we weren't going to be there. It's not THAT tacky. Now they do a lot of Tastefully Simple which is food so we really like those!!

The invitation is perfectly normal... and I'm sure both it and the highlighting were done by the consultant, who is just trying to make ends meet. And don't be upset with your friend, she's probably having the party to help out another friend...
When I have a party it usually for that reason, but I always tell everyone I invite... 'come if it works & your interested... if not no worries'. So when I get an invitation I think of it in that same way. Life is too short...
