Ok, Walt said he had the tunnels build under WDW to help keep the magic, so CM's could travel around the pak without being seen.

He said he once saw at DL a cowboy from Frontierland walkign through Tomorowland and the magic was broken.

So since DL was not built with tunnels, then how do CM's get around?

um, walking? :confused3 Not to sound mean or anything but that is my guess. I am not sure myself - excellent question!

I understand. LOL I mean do they have secreat pathats or whatever? I guess I am wondering what is DL's version of "the tunnels"?

I was researching the topic and found some information:

The only underground staff area in Disneyland is in New Orleans Square, where they have "The Deck" employee diner, some offices and a little storage space. All of the behind-the-scenes work actually happens behind the park proper, and looks quite a bit like a slightly upscale warehouse district. It's really weird to enter this area from the park because you're in the fantasy world of Disneyland one second, and in total reality the next.

Since this is referring to DL, why don't you ask this in the DL forum:

Wasn't sure since it was both WDW and DL. Sorry.

I was in the tunnels today on the keys to the kingdom tour, and kept wondering how they get along without them in Disneyland.

And Epcot.
And Disney-MGM Studios.
And Disney's Animal Kingdom.

Only MK has Utilidors.

Well, thoes parks can get away with it. but then again. You don't see. the things that Walt was complaining about, like the cowboys and stuff anymore.

Yes, but they were built later, with no limitations on space, so could have all the backlot area they need. Disneyland did not take any of these issues into account when they built, so it is a unique animal in that respect.

like stated before there is a tunnel under future world but it is small.

Yes Mk is the only park that has the tunnel (utilidor), but

Epcot provides buses behind the scenes from the cast area to the locations so that you don't have someone from Morocco walking through Mexico and so on. Only Future World CM's are allowed to walk across to their area (although they too have the bus option)

MGM is supposed to be a wokring movie studio so it would not be an issue walking from one location to another and being out of place.

AK has two entrances to the backstage areas, one by Dinosaur and one behind Rainforest, so that when you do walk across an area you are at least closer to where you are supposed to be... They however do not have a bus system like Epcot (as was originally planned) so if a CM wants to go to the cafeteria for lunch they must walk across the park as it is behind the Lion King Theater (although the do have other dining options on the Asia/Dinoland side, they are not as extravegant).

At DL most of the CM's we have seen come out by the Photo Shop on Main Street and cut across quickly to their land. It is not unusally to see a CM out of place there. Unlike WDW they also have "Leads" which are CM's that are above the front line CM's but not management... these Leads wear "a" costume for their area even though they could be overlooking a few attractions or locations. So for example you can see someone in a Canoe costume over at the Mansion... At WDW all the "coordinators" same concept, different name, wear the same costume across the park, it is not an area/location costume, so they do stand out as the coordinator, but they are not out of place.

The utilidor is not that pretty... Basically it is just long, sometimes endless hallways that lead you from one area to another. They hallways are not carpeted and the only paint on the walls is to let you know where you are. The walls are painted halfway up to signify what land you are under (each one is a different color). The doorways have signs that tell you where that particular stairwell will take you. There are offices, the cafeteria, breakrooms and lots of maintenance pargos (golf carts) zipping through. It is more intreguing because it is the unknown and pretty cool to see if you have not, since it is "the secret underground", but it really is just a working area.

AK does have "borrow a bike" - you take a bike from backstage near your location and ride it to the cafeteria - and just leave it there. Sometimes someone will take your bike ( you just grab any bike ) and take it back and leave it near your location.

They have enough to go around...

Nice... they didn't have that when I was there... We had to walk from CTX to the cafeteria through the park... We all just kept a shirt in our lockers and went to restaurantosaures to save the time...
