Tuck In Service

I have always thought that Dis.world could make a TON of money by offering "tuck in service." Now, don't think me untoward, there's nothing risque about this idea (at least not from me), but how much would you pay to have Snow White, Jasmine, or Alice tuck your kid in and read them a story?

Am I nuts- is this ever a possiblity? What do you DIS boarders think?

Wow! What an outstanding idea! I know that there are times that the characters will come for a personal visit for a sick child, but this is something I really think is a G R E A T idea!

Maybe you should write it up and suggest it in case the DCL staff who monitor the boards miss it!!!!

I think it's a great idea. My children would think that was so cool. The only possible problem might be liability for Disney (think Michael Jackson). It is so sad that we live in a world today where we even have to think of this. Disney probably couldn't risk it unless they had some other way to do it such as through the kid's club.

This service actually was available years ago on Premier cruise line (Big Red Boat). There are several reasons why it is not practical any more....the characters have many "escape routes" on the ship which are not generally in the area of passenger cabins. The narrower halls and lack of alternate routes is less than optimal for them. That, added to the liability issues make it impractical. It would only take one accusation to besmirch Disney and the cruise line for a long time.

About 10 years ago, Disney became much more protective of their characters...they no longer "rent" them out to other companies, etc., don't appear at private functions except in the highest levels of Dis executives,....you get the idea.

We tried to get this for our daughter on our last cruise - We went to Guest Services and they did check to see if this was possible - Someone did tell us that they did do this on "the big red boat" - But it is no longer available - Liability and kind of hard to fit the costumes down the hall (we were trying to get Minnie) - I understand completely!

I can understand the logistics problem of this....but liability?? Give me a break. All they'd have to do is have a CM escort the character, just like they do in the parks, AND require that one parent be present. It's as simple as that.

Like I said, I can see the logistics problems....costumes fitting down the narrow hallways....running into other kids in the hallway who want would want Mickey's attention as he's trying to get to a room to tuck a kid in, etc. But there are definitely ways around the whole "liability" issue! It wouldn't have to be a big drawn out thing, maybe 15 minutes spent per cabin, no matter how many kids are being "tucked in" in that cabin. The CM could "speak" for Mickey and say "ok kids, get into your beds, Mickey will tuck you all in now" and Mickey would do his mime act like he does all the time, in the parks and other character interactions. Maybe this CM could be a face character, so he/she would still be part of the whole character thing, too. Or maybe just have ALL face characters, plus a CM in uniform to escort them. There are ways to do this....

They could charge $50 for 15 minutes worth of time spent, per cabin.

I can understand why Disney might not even want to bother with this, but it COULD be done, in my opinion.


P.S. Rae, it was Donny Osmond who sang that song, not Michael Jackson. I had a crush on both of them back then, I remember this vividly. LOL

Actually, a character escort wouldn't mean a thing for liability. Did you read the recent case against a Disney character that happened in the parks, out in public, with an escort and people around? It was an inappropriate touching thing, although (personal opinion here) I think the person who filed the suit is just looking for a quick buck. If it can happen in the parks, I can't even imagine what accusations people might make over a stateroom visit. Sad but true in our litigious society.

Good point, Barb. I hope things don't get so out of hand that Disney stops all close-up character/guest interaction. I've seen so many of the characters hug, cuddle, tickle, etc guests, I'd hate to see that have to stop. I don't know if you've seen my web site but I have so many pictures of the characters kidding around with DSs, making contact with them, that I would hate to see end altogether. Those moments are what made our trip so special. Especially when Capt Hook smooshed a cupcake in our older DSs face. (At our prompting, I must add! LOL And he only smooshed it a little, on his mouth, which DS thought was hysterical! LOL) This is on our web page, under the Restaurants page, during the Villain's Dinner.
At the Crystal Palace, all of the characters hugged younger DS and squeezed his cheeks, rubbed his head, etc. It was all done affectionately.


P.S. Yes I did read about that person who's claiming that Chip/Dale felt her up.

Also on Premier Cruise Line, I remember it being the Loony Toon characters that did the 'tuck-in' service. They had Bugs Bunny, Tweety, etc. I don't remember it being the Disney characters.

Even though Premier Cruise Line did the combo cruise/WDW packages - they were not operated by Disney.

Our company had some characters at a party at WDW and I remember it being somewhere around $500 or $600 per hour for Minnie and Mickey (so - like $250 for one character for an hour)

I think that the service would be too popular - 870 some staterooms - even on a 7-night cruise Mickey would have to visit a little over 100 staterooms per night. At 15 minutes for each visit that is four visits an hour - I think you know where I am going with this. Even at 10 minutes a visit that is only six staterooms.

Not saying that everyone would purchase it - but if made available I am sure it would be very popular - and how could DCL tell someone it was 'sold out'.

Actually premiere did have teh Disney Characters do this on te Big Red Boat. I remember specifically becase I was on my honeymoon and we thought how great it would be to bring our kis back there( when we had them) and have them tucked in by Mickey. Not long after that (2/1994) they switched over to Looney Tunes. I was so disappointed.
I realize there is some liability issues aspeople are nuts but it wold be such a great experience for the kids. They ae no problem telling people charactr lines are cut off or Tea with Wendy is sold out so I am sure they could do the same when it became sold out there too.

Since we know Disney would probably not do this because of liability, how about having a character come on the tv at certain times during the evening and reading a bedtime story and saying goodnite to the children? Maybe a different character every evening. Might even be possible to figure out a way to pay to have the character use your child's name when they tape it and have it played at a certain time. Not exactly the same as having the character in person, but this would avoid the liability issue and might be a compromise. What do you think?

It seems to me that they have (or used to have) something like that at the WDW resorts where they read a bedtime story on t.v. That would be a really neat idea. They have the shows on t.v. at night in case you miss them at the theater or want to see them again. It would be nice to add bed time stories, although it would probably have to be a "face" character who reads them.

They have story time at Disneyland - One of the princesses reads a story and she has an "assistant" that helps to act out the story - It is very good - I think that is a great idea - better yet - have it done in the clubs when they are putting out the cots for the kids - They could put a live feed into the staterooms so all could see!
