TSM Rope Drop,How Early?

We have an 800a ADR for H&V on a non-EMH day.
Because my son only has interest in TSMM and no other rides, we decided to use our FP+ for another park in the afternoon.

I'm hoping we will finish breakfast around 850. Can we head there and get in line? Would you anticipate the SB line to be longer than 20 minutes, since many will use FP+ as a guarantee to ride?

I'd try to get out of breakfast by 8:45 as they open the park earlier than 9.

I would arrive by 8:00 for a 9:00 opening. You'll be right near the front of the lines at the gates and will have a walk on wait time at Toy Story. Arrive at 8:15 and there will be a fair number of people ahead of you at the gate. Arrive at 8:30 and well...you'll be sorry. :)

I wonder if you would be better of getting a FP+ for TSMM and then hitting RnRC and ToT at rope drop instead. They normally schedule 2 shows for LMA that are usually the same time and add extra shows during busier times. I think you can usually find them on wdwent.com.

Thanks! I've never heard of wdwent.com. I'll check it out.

We did TSM right at rope drop and were in line at 8 at the front. You were in front of the mass crowd to get a quick first ride and then you could jump on again with maybe a 20 or 30 minute wait if you wanted. Or you could head down to rocking roller coaster then tower of terror. We did TSM then rocking then tower and never experienced over a 20 minute wait. I will not wait over 30 minutes for a ride. I don't have the patience. This is how we worked it this past week, and the. We used our fast passes for the evening in HS or a different park. So if we were staying in HS all day we would ride it at least twice maybe three times. One good thing was with FP+ was if you didn't go to HS in the morning you could still have at least one TSM ride waiting on you when you park hopped over.

We are planning our first trip in August:woohoo: although we are planning on arriving for RD we are torn between heading to JTA an TSM. From what I've been reading here it's sounding like we need to head to TSM first. Has anybody had any luck with signing up with JTA later in the morning?
I was also wondering if it would be ok if DS and I sign up while The rest of our group heads to TSM and we would meet them in line?

So, if you go straight to TSM and then plan on going to RnR and ToT after, what kind of wait times should you expect at the second two?

Will RnR really be 30 minutes long by 9:20, like touring plans says? Or is that overestimating it?

The last two weeks of March we were at the front of the line for rope drop went straight to TSM and maybe had 5 or 10 minute wait basically walking through the maze to get on, then went straight to RnR and it was 30 ( it didn't feel like 30 I would probably say 20). Then we went straight to ToT and it had like a 10 or 15 minute wait.

I did RD to TSM last August, FP+ was in effect then, but only at like 4 resorts. It was a day with PM EMH. Arrived probably 30 minutes before opening and were 3rd in line at the turnstiles. Rushed to TSM, got a legacy fast pass for an hour later, and then immediately got in line. The wait time was ~5 minutes.

Moral of the story: If you are within 5 spots in line from the turnstile, and rush to TSM, it will almost be a walk on. So, get there early enough for that.
