Tsa ?

We leave in just 3 days!

I looked all over the TSA website and couldn't find anything on this:

Last night I was putting together my girls' travel journals. They turned out great! But I did decide to let the kids put the stickers on the pages themselves. I just pooped out I bought HSM folders, printed all the sheets on bright-colored card stock for easy writing, punched holes in the paper, and binded it together with wired ribbon. I also bought big pens (like the souvenir ones you can buy in the park) also HSM themed.

Can you tell that my girls are crazy about High School Musical??

My question is this. Do you think the TSA will allow the pens as carry-on items? I included puzzles and trivia games for them to do on the plane. I had planned to attach the pens with the binding, but when dh saw them, he expressed the concern about tsa, so I left them separate.

I can, of course, give them regular pens/pencils for the plane trip, but I really wanted to attach the pens so they don't get lost (a major problem in our house!)

I can't imagine that the pens would be an issue. Have a terrific trip!!!

Most airports have a list of non- approved items for carry-ons posted somewhere before you check in. Nashville even has a case of some of the things that have been confiscated in the past- including a leaf blower and a chainsaw!! I just traveled with 186 kids on a European tour through no less than 8 different airports national and international. No worries with pens, although if they are the over sized ones I wouldn't be surprised if they asked you to take them apart just to make sure nothing illegal was stored in there. Now lighters and swiss army knives, that's a different story...

Actually, as of Aug 4, lighters will be OK. 4 ounces of sunscreen or toothpaste isn't but lighters will be.

I work for TSA, I'm not sure what kind of pens your talking about, but I've only seen one kind of pens that needed to be in a quart size baggie.

Amazing isn't it? Yeah the TSA and DHS really have it together.

If the pen looks like it is a reservoir of liquid, I would avoid bringing it.

nearly any ordinary pen or pencil or crayon is acceptable.

If it's a "gel" pen, I would not carry the original packaging that says "gel".. in case of a zelous TSA agent at the checkpoint!
