The TSA will issue new/modified directives regarding threat conditions by the end of the week. Banned item lists are being reviewed and revised as well as a few other procedural matters.

I still would not take any of the present banned items with me for quite a while, even if they ease up.
You'll end up going through security and they will tell you (whatever is allowed) you can't take that with you.

As a frequent traveler, I rather enjoy the new rules. Far less carry-ons and boarding and exiting the aircraft is soooooooooo much quicker and easier. Most hotels are providing essentials (toothpaste, shaving cream, etc.) to guests so less stuff I have to carry anyway

The big issue is beverages purchased airside -- and cosmetics !!!

(The average hotel isn't going to be giving away $100 worth of makeup to each female guest, or even $10 worth -- you have to match the stuff to skin tone.)

LOL, so true!! Plus, for those of us with sensitive skin, we can't use just any soap/shampoo/etc.

I was just thinking today that maybe by the time we leave in 5 weeks things will have eased up a bit. I hope-I hope-I hope!!

Chapstick is allowed now. Also, you can carry on solid deodorant just not spray or gel. I traveled last week and it was allowed.

Anything that speeds things up boarding the plane I am all for it. Why can't you put your cosmetics in your checked luggage?

Forget the airline website; those are often out of date, too. The only one that counts at the checkpoint is the TSA list: http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm#0

That list has been known to change suddenly (the point of this thread, after all), so be sure to double-check it on the day you are travelling. It's a good idea to print it that day and carry a copy with you in case issues come up.

Of course I *can* put cosmetics in checked luggage, but the whole point is that I don't want to check luggage, not when I'm travelling for business. (Some people don't want to trust expensive cosmetics to checked baggage, of course; for ex., a full complement of Clinique can easily cost $300 to replace. Assuming that you are somewhere where you *can* replace it--at a lot of my client sites Walmart is the only game in town.)

I'm not advocating going back to the era of "everything but the kitchen knifeblock", but a toiletries pouch with *small* containers of cosmetics/cleansers/lotions would make going strictly carryon possible for me again. I only put one 20" rollaboard in the overhead -- I was never a bin hog.

PS: My company has rules that say that all company-owned electronics and trip paperwork must not be checked. I am also supposed to carry on at least two changes of business attire. (As I mentioned, a lot of my site visits are in rural areas; if my bag gets lost I'm not going to be able to find something suitable in a hurry.) Since most of my trips are for 1-2 nights, checking a second bag just to accomodate a paperback-book sized toiletry kit is kind of silly. What I end up doing is checking a larger bag containing the toiletry kit and some newspaper, then nesting the 20" inch inside of it once I claim it.

You may not be a bin hog but lots of folks are. I am glad that more people are checking their luggage. I travel for business and the first thing I do is check my luggage.

Let's just hope the TSA has the guts to pull the liquid/gel ban completely. But I seriously doubt they will (doing so would just be admitting that the ban wasn't necessary in the first place). Instead, I'm betting the come up with a compromise (which they will see as face saving).

As for the overhead bins, the solution is to get the airlines to enforce the rules on amount of stuff allowed, not instituting bans that don't make us safer.

Just be prepared for the TSA Agent to smell it. LOL At least that's what happened to me in August on my way to MCO. Don't know if she was required to do that, but I couldn't help but laugh thinking how many times a day she had to do that and if she was grateful it wasn't a larger airport.

Sorry but you are SOOOOOOOOOO wrong. 100% pure woman here!!!

I pack my bare escentuals cosmetics into my checked bag. Haven't had a problem in the 10+ flights I have had since the new rules were put into place.

It is so easy to pack creams/lotions/etc into your checked bags. If you are worried about having them before ME brings your bags then send a package to your resort several days before your arrival. It will be waiting for you when you check in.

I just want to be able to buy a bottle of water at the gate area and carry it on.... I don't think that's asking too much. They were SUPPOSE to screen that water before it got to the gate......

(And yes, I have heard that they don't let me carry it on because they are concerned they didn't catch it at the security checkpoint but I am not sure how this helps. If the terroist didn't give it up at the security checkpoint is he/she suddenly decide to display the contraband in public? I don't think so! The TSA lives in this Fanasty World where terrorist do things with flashing NEON lights saying ME ME.... I think that your averge terrorist is probably much more creative then your average TSA agent. I mean after all this focus on liquids the terrorists are already off to something else... Let's just PRAY it's not something like "explosive clothing" I can see it now, the TSA will ban clothing and IF we have to fly NAKED I am NOT going!)

I just did a quick Google news search, and I didn't see any reports that the TSA would issue such revisions "by the end of the week."
