If you check back through this thread many people are reporting that these methods are not being employed across the board. It could be that these reports are just flukes or it could be that the methods are being pared back. I, for one, am waiting to see what's what over the Christmas rush. However, if this is still going on I would really appreciate those reports too. Eliza61 you seem to travel a great deal, what do you see? Are the scanners and pat-downs being used often or not?
I do travel alot Luv but unfortunately it's to the same markets. My weekly runs are from Philly to chicago and from Philly to Boston. My last business trip was the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and tomorrow I've got a meeting in chicago.
The scanners in Philly are relatively new and are only in one terminal (F) that pretty much services small hops on USair and commuter flights. They are very much in service. I have a flight out tomorrow at 6:45, I did get an email to check and make sure meeting was still on because evidently Chicago and the midwest are getting hammered with winter weather. The word we are hearing in Philly is that they plan on installing 2 more in 2011.
I do agree with you that the TSA needs to broadcast the information better, the gate agents are woefully short on information and under trained.
I opted out the second week in November but I think I got the "old" pat down, rather routine, very quick.
The terminal I use in Boston I was not scanned with the new machine.
I did hear that NY Senator Schumer is trying to introduce a law in NY making it a crime for anybody to store, recieve or post the images. I have not heard an update on that.
Perhaps you allowed your own second-hand experience obscure your view of what the policy has been from the start and how it was administered from the start.
