TSA Approved Locks

We have TSA approved locks for our luggage which we have used before when flying with no problems. My question is, does Disney also have keys for these special locks? We are staying at the airport Hyatt the night before the cruise so we will have access to our luggage. I would like to put these locks back on before leaving them in the hall at the Hyatt for pick up. Is this going to be allright? Should I use the "zipstrips" instead?

Any advice is appreciated.

I used the TSA approved locks and they not only cut the locks off my suitcase, they cut the actual zipper tab they were on...I was VERY pissed...I went out of the way to buy the TSA ones and they cut them anyway and ruined the luggage!!!

We used TSA locks on our luggage from Denver to San Diego (one suitcase was opened and searched and a note left in it) and from Disneyland on to the Magic and back home again - I highly recommend them

Not sure I understand the need for them, other than they let you know if your luggage was opened. A simple twist tie will do that for free.
Bottom line, nothing of value should be in your checked luggage.

It happend on the cruise....between the time we left them out at night until we picked them up in the morning at port.

NOW THAT JUST STINKS I absolutly hate having to leave the luggage outside the door in the first place (when i change the next morning i'm not fond of carring everyones underwear and pj's in my purse i am going to email and call disney about this-i wonder if it has something to do with the customs/immigration stuff upon disembarkment-they may not have the keys (since not part of travel safety admin).

i've grown fond of these locks-we use them for local travel as well. if we have something that won't fit into a room safe we put it in one of the suitcases with the tsa lock-very easy to see if someone's gotten into it in our absence from the room.

i fully agree with the post regarding nothing valuable going into the suitcases, in fact we will do on our next cruise as we did on our alaskan cruise of last year (this week in fact )-anything we take of value is designated as carry on, and anything we buy of value will be paid to have mailed home (we put a hold on our mail for our vacation so the packages just sit waiting for us at the post office).

Thanks everyone. Guess I will use the TSA locks at the airport and switch over to colored zip ties once we reach the Hyatt.

I agree with the valuables going into my carryon. I have a friend who worked for an airline and he was approached many times by a few other employees to get in on a scam where they open the checked luggage and remove items and then sell them at garage sales. They were willing to split the cash with him. Good thing my friend turned them all in.

I think all airports do things differently. We used our TSA locks in Milwaukee and Orlando airports with no difficulty at all. My daughter used just the zip ties in Chicago and was scolded for it. They immediately searched her luggage. I asked the attendant why she couldn't use these but I didn't get much of an answer. Good thing she didn't use the locks. She may be serving hard time now.

I didn't discover it until we got to the airport and I went to check my bags....by then it was to late.....I have to go pick up new luggage now since the tabs were cut off the zipper...just got that darn luggage last year too!!

I think I'll stick with my hard sided luggage...23 years and still going strong, no zippers to break. I still don't see the value in TSA locks though, since they don't stop anyone from getting in.

On our cruise in June, we had a voicemail as soon as we got to our stateroom from the security officer. Seems that a "leatherman" multi-tool is not allowed on board, even in checked luggage. But they had seen it on the x-ray and called to have me come down and unlock the TSA-approved strap locks.
For those of us whose luggage does not zip closed, options are limited, especially given that our hard-sided Samsonite suitcases (purchased post 9/11) have built in, non-TSA-approved locks.
