TS on HS Day

I’m debating over where to eat dinner on our HS day. I was first thinking Mama Melrose, but now I’m wondering if going off park to Cape May might be better. Would it be too much of a hassle to leave HS for a trip over to Beach Club? Advice? Where do you all do TS on your HS day? (About us, 2 adults and DS age 10, DH is diabetic and eats mostly low carb.)

If we want to continue in that park after a meal, we'll make an ADR for Sci-Fi or 50s. If you're not on the dining plan, then HBD lounge on a nice day. They don't take ADRs, seating is outside only, and you can order from the lounge or restaurant menus. There's quite a wait at peak meal times, though.
I don't like to leave the park until we're ready to move onto something different, because of the time-suck/hassle.

II Mulino is our go to off park HS dinner. Excellent Italian food.

IMO, Cape May isn't worth going out of your way for unless you're staying at or near the Beach Club area.

When we want TS at DHS, we book Sci Fi or 50s Prime Time. Two of the most uniquely themed places at WDW, IMO.

The time suck is huge to leave if you want to go back. Budget at least 3 hours

If you don’t plan on going back, take the boat over to the BW in the evening. Fun performers, arcade games, ice cream!

Note there are games during the day but this place doesn’t get lively til evening

I can't help but think that the Skyliner, once open, may encourage people to go to resort hotels and EPCOT for dining. My wife and I are planning dinner at Topolino in the Riviera Resort on one of our HS days in January, instead of eating at Hollywood Brown Derby.

Brown Derby would be my choice and do the Fantasmic package if want to do Fantasmic. If night staying until close then Cape May would be a great choice but I wouldn't leave and come back.

We like 50's for dinner. Leaving to go to BC (or any resort), factor in your travel time.

We did Cape May for dinner and it was one of my DH's favorite meals of our trip. The kids (DS 9 and DD 6 at the time) and I also enjoyed it but we preferred some of the other more uniquely Disney dining experiences. We took the boat from HS to BC and, even with great timing of being able to walk right onto a waiting boat, it still took a decent amount of time with the stop at the Swan & Dolphin. This was toward the end of a longer trip so we were not in a hurry and enjoyed the relaxing boat ride and walking around the BC/YC grounds before dinner as well as the short walk to Epcot after dinner.

If you're trying to maximize your park time I would not suggest leaving HS as you'll likely have at least an hour of transportation time by bus, boat or walking for the round trip to BC on top of the time you'll have to allow for dinner. The Skyliner might make this trip more efficient when it opens this fall.
