Trying to stay positive

I have gone to Disneyland at various times of the year, managing to make at least one trip per year for the last three decades, and, to me, the upcoming refurb schedule seemed pretty extensive. Happened upon a newspaper article on-line that suggested at least some of the ride closures are due to city/county/state mandated work, possibly to make them safer. SoCal is earthquake country, after all. Not sure if this is true, but it is certainly possible.

I ** TOTALLY ** understand the frustration! It's tough when you've saved up all your pennies for a trip to DL that you can only afford to make once every couple of years (or every few years or whenever depending on one's circumstances) and to find out that a bunch of your favorite rides will be down for maintenance.

that being said, a bad day at Disneyland is better than a good day at work!!

Amen!!!! I can remember my first trip, when I wasn't sure I would EVER get to come back. I was really bummed about the things I didn't get to do. Now, when an attraction is closed or an area blocked off, I just make a mental note to see it next time.

I have been truly blessed to live fairly close to DL and have the means to go every year. My heart goes out to those folks who get to come to DL only once or twice in a lifetime and then are disappointed that their favorite attractions or characters are unavailable.

And I don't think I've ever had a bad day at Disneyland--just a few disappointments. But definitely better than a good day at work!!!

I am so with you on that!! I am not a huge fan of flying either and I only have a 2 hour flight to deal with. When we went two years ago the Main Street train station was all covered up and I was sad about that, but it doesn't compare to the castle being covered :( I hope that your trip is still magical and filled with pixie dust for you and your daughter!

Thank you

We will be there in February as well. Very disappointing. Especially when the castle will also be covered with a lovely tarp and the water at DCA is drained.

Is it confirmed the castle will be tarped? We are toying with the idea of going down in February but maybe not....

Yes! It is confirmed. The Castle will be tarped starting Jan 19-March 2nd, unvailed on March 3rd (if not delayed further).

I emailed Disneyland & got confirmation & I also spoke to them on the phone. It is confirmed. :(

Seriously, at the Animation Academy...

"Aa part of theFrozen Fun promotion, Animation Academy is currently only featuring classes on how to draw Olaf the snowman. There is no word on when or if the other Disney/Pixar characters will return to the schedule"

daughter is not impressed with this one, she loves to draw and was so looking forward to learning to draw as many Disney characters she could. She can not stand Frozen.

Does any one know if you can purchase books, teaching you to draw the Disney characters, at Disneyland.

Yep, I also spoke to someone on the phone who confirmed it. Her name was Karen and she was really quite nice. (Though I think she may have given me some misinformation about a Winnie the Pooh meet and greet.)

I am sure we will be right, once we get there I am sure we will be excited, It is just that feeling that I couldn't have picked a worse time to go.

Had a look through that link - oh well what can you do :sad2:

Oohh am liking that merchandise, might need another suitcase to bring it all home

I know I'm griping about the closures a lot...but really, I would still rather be there in February than during the summer. Crowds and heat? Yuck.

I thought you had backup dates in April, or was that someone else? If so many things that you were looking forward to are going to be closed it might not be a terrible idea to postpone?

Are you kidding me?!?!?!? Where did you see/hear this? My son is going to be choked! We love it and always go to the Animation Academy several times during our trip. One character all day long?? They can't be serious  Okay, I enjoyed Frozen but come onnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn. Enough already! *Sigh*

One would think if anything, that there would be a multitude of characters from to which to draw upon. ;) No....really man!
Why limit it to only one? :faint:

They're also drawing the big marshmallow monster guy, but still Frozen.

The refurb schedule isn't released for our April dates, but the odds are most of the same rides will be closed during those days. So it wouldn't make sense to change to April when the crowds and temps are higher. Not to mention, Southwest's flight options on our backup dates are pretty awful. So we'll only be changing to those dates if one of us gets sick right before our vacation.

See, that would be a selling feature for me! :beach:
