Trying to stay positive

Saw some mention of a tarp covering the castle while reading this thread. Does anyone know around what date that might happen? Had a trip planned for the last weekend in January.

I believe January 19th but I'm not 100% sure. That is also the first day the calendar lists the walkthrough as closed so that's probably accurate.

I was told by the CM on the phone that Snow White's wishing well/grotto area will also be closed.

According to cast members, the castle will be finished March 2nd and unveiled the 3rd.

We are in the same boat going about the same time.

I understand this is the "low" season and its a big anniversary but....I guess I'm mainly disappointed in those things uniquely DL such as the Castle and the Matterhorn (which I have always dreamed of riding).

And I guess I'm not destined to ride Peter Pan either. Every trip to WDW its been closed for refurb and now my first (and possibly only) trip to DL and it will down for refurb too.

Oh well it is what it is.....like others, just plan on maybe some meet and greets

I've heard Jan 19- March 3? somewhere the beginning of March.

Thanks for the quick replies! I had a feeling that would be the case, so now I just have to mentally prepare myself that the tarp will be there. I'd much rather know in advance than be disappointed upon arrival, in any case. Ah, silver linings... :rotfl:

Add us to the "same boat" list. Dates are not really flexible because I will already be in LA for a work conference (east coaster). Last time I was at DL was 10 years ago for the 50th. This will be my 2nd ever tip and was mostly looking forward to WoC. As a WDW vet, most of the other things I can do here. Oh well, like others mentioned, I will still be happy to be at the happiest place on earth.

Oh I do hope the dates you've mentioned for the castle refurb are correct. If right it'll reopen on our last park day before we leave! We are coming from Aus and my 6 year old is desperate to see the castle :-)

I don't think so. They are just refurbishing Splash and Pooh so there's no reason to keep the shops and restaurants open over there. Basically so save money, they close the whole area down.

Condor Flats at DCA will also be completely closed (well, it is already) but that is for a total retheme.
Like man just does not sound like a good combination splashing with poo. :faint:

;)

While still a lot to be closed, it doesn't look as bad when looked at like this.

In case there are any other Winnie the Pooh fans...there will be no Winnie the Pooh and friends meet and greet during the refurb. So much for my son meeting the only character he knows. Thanks, Disneyland! I'll be sure to take a photo of him in front of your lovely refurbishment wall instead.

Lol. Or in front of the tarped castle. :faint:

We need to have a tarped castle picture thread :) also add pics in front of the drained lagoon :)

Good idea! Lol
I forgot the lagoon was to be drained too. Isn't that actually the moat? Anyway, good grief! :faint:

I too am really hoping it is unveiled on the 3rd. We're coming over from Australia and leave that day, so hoping to see it before we leave that afternoon.

Did they mean the water drained for WOC referb in DCA? Because that is happening.
Oh....lol...I mixed up me waters. :faint:
So then the moat is safe? Or will there be a tarp over it that has a water motif on it. lmao ;) ?

ClaraOswald- If your budget allows, you could do the Minnie & Friends Character Breakfast at Plaza Inn. Pooh, Eeyore and Tigger often make appearances there. We have sometimes seen Rabbit in the Thunder Ranch Jamboree area too. I hear you though, I thought I had come to peace with all of the closures for our trip this coming weekend. Now I have learned of a couple more things that make me want to cancel our reservations at the GC, and stay some place much cheaper. Many of the things we were staying at the GC for, due to proximity, are closed. But of course it is now too late to cancel without penalty.
