So I was accepted into the Disneyland CP, which I am sooo excited about! The only problem is, I'm nervous about my role. I was assigned to Resort Parking and Transportation, which at Disneyland, means directing parking and driving the passenger trams.
this wasn't one of my checked roles at all, but I was ok with it at first and I figured I would at least have fun with it. However, since then, every time I mention my role, people talk to me like it's horrible. Now I'm worried. I can't direct traffic, I'm only 5 feet tall, who is gonna see me?!?! Plus, I've yet to meet any girls assigned to this role...

I'm starting to regret this. Why would they put me in a guy role, especially when I had checked practically every other role on the checklist?

Awe come on don't think like that you'll be fine. It can't be hard! I wouldn't worry about what other people thought of it just go see if you like it!:thumbsup2

no matter what your job you get what you want out of it. Go in with an open mind and I'm sure you'll make friends and have a good time while you are there. The program isn't really all about the job its about everything else. And you could love the people you end up working with which always makes work fun. :)

that's pretty much exactly what I originally told myself and I was completely happy with it, but then I let all the negativity get to me. I should just keep reminding myself "at least I'm not working in food, at least I'm not working in food" (I cannot stand working in food, lol)

I'm sure you'll be fine.

I can say for certain that there are many female Cast Members in California-Site Resort Transportation and Parking Operations, so that's not even an issue. Even if it did so, it is the standing policy of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts U.S., Inc. to not tolerate discrimination based on gender in the workplace.

The Company will ensure that you are properly trained on how to direct traffic. With over 55 years of experience on the matter, the Disneyland Resort has refined it down to a precise science. While it's true most California drivers are crazy on the road, they do generally follow directions in carparks.

Well, I don't really feel comfortable directing traffic so I'm pretty sure I won't be doing that. I would be a nervous wreck and probably cry the whole time.

First off, the only "guy" roles at wdw and dl would be face character roles...

Second, if parking in DL is anything like it is in WDW you'll be in a vibrant colored costume (white with yellow stipes at WDW) People will be able to see you :-)

I was a custodial CM in WDW and am now seasonally, trying to go FT. I can definitely say when I tell people I work at WDW They think it's really cool. When they ask where and I say, some people's face will twist and think, "oh big deal" In actuality, I think it's one of THE best front line roles to work in. You're not stuck in one spot, and I had the freedom do do A LOT of things attractions, merch, and qsfb would have NEVER been able to do.

Point of that little story was that you don't know what you're getting into, and just because other people have "bad" things to say about the role, doesn't meant that you won't end up loving it. What's the worst that could happen?

My boyfriend applied for Main Entrance Operations just so he could have a chance to work in the parking lot at WDW. It is all he wants to do. I have also worked in a parking lot before. It really isn't bad! Disney is also really good at rotating, so you will never be put in a position where you are forgotten about. Spieling on a tram could be really fun, have you ever heard a really boring tram announcer or a really great one? It seems like you have room to be creative, which can be fun.

I think it gets a bad wrap because especially in WDW, it's very hot. But, the way Disney's system works, you get rotated frequently and you may end up enjoying it.

Sometimes doing a job that isn't glamorous is a great way to learn about yourself, so it's worth it to stick it out!! There is someone on the CP who is in parking now and loves it..so you might end up loving it too!

Some of my most favorite "magical moments" have been from Female Parking Castmembers. We were there last September in Florida when they had that horrible heat wave (95+ temps every day) and we were heading over to Animal Kingdom. As we approached with our vehicle, we saw a female parking CM directing traffic with a twist--she was dancing and making the most hilarious hand gestures to direct the traffic. Everyone was geting such a kick out of it. She was not very tall at all, maybe 5'2" at best, but she was out there having a ball and yet making sure that the vehicles were getting in the right spot. As we were waiting for the tram, they happened to be switching out positions so she continued her antics with us in the tram, singing and engaging the guests. When we arrived at the entrance, the entire tram gave her a thunderous applaud! She truly made the moment awesome and I have not forgotten it months later.

It is what you make of it! Go and enjoy the role and make it fun. You will see that you can do better than what you think. I am sure you will do great and have a wonderful experience.
