I am trying to sell DH on DVC. We've rented points at BWV for OCT. That should help. My questions is can you save alot on Disney Curises too! DH really want to go on a cruise. ABout how many points do you need for a cruise. We have a family of 2 adults and 1 child. :wizard:

You can use DVC points for the Disney Cruises, but you won't save money doing it. The best value of DVC points is using them to stay at the DVC resorts

Many members rent their points and use the proceeds to pay cash for the cruise. They come out way ahead that way. There are other disadvantages to booking a cruise on points.

The point cost to cruise depends on the season, the itnerary, the length of the cruise and the cabin category you choose as well as the number of adults and children crusing.

Bottom Line: Probably not a good idea to talk too much about cruising (or using points outside of the DVC resorts) if you want to convince DH that DVC is a good value for your family.

Best wishes -

We booked a cruise for July 8, 2007. when I priced it on points versus cash Disney was giving me about a $7.5 per point value. You can usually rent your points for $10-12 per point on the trade board. When you figure your true cost of your points - dues, amortize your orginal investment and mortgage interest (if you paid cash then what you could have gotten in a CD) - you will be surprised since will probably be at least $9 per point. So a cruise on points is usually not the best use.

If you can't win using logic, just tell him no private adult time unless he capitulates. You'll win... ;-)

Thanks Guys! I think after our stay in October he might be sold. We would probabally have to buy into SSR because of money....We will probabally be going in October or early December most of the time until DD is in school. Once she is in School that will change everything. When is a good time to go when you have kids in school? And how do you choose your use year based on that. I'm sure we would like to try different resorts but stay at SSR too.

I would go with Thanksgiving - if she gets off the entire week.

Spring Break is also good - but expensive pointwise - so is Summer plus Orlando can be HOT during the summer. :sunny: If I have to deal with crowds I would rather not have to deal with the heat and humdity too...

if she gets a fall break even better!!!

so far DVC has not changed Thanksgiving....

Summer in a studio would be 123 points for the entire week, 65 for 5 days (sun-thur - leaving fri morning)

Spring break would be the same

Thanksgiving week in a studio would be 109 points for the entire week (2 different seasons), 59 points for Sun-thur

this is at SSR - OKW would be cheaper - everything else (except BWV standard) would be more.
