Are the state room walls thick? I know that’s a weird question but do people hear other people through them?

I hate when you go to a hotel and hear people talking, tv, kids, etc.

The walls are reasonably thick, but it is possible to hear people in the room next-door if they're loud.

They are kinda thin and sometimes you can hear people, kids, tv, etc. The last time, our neighbour's alarm clock rang for over an hour. You might also hear people in the hallway (this is why I usually book aft or forward and avoid mid-ship cabins)

Bring earplugs just in case.

We've never had a problem with noise. Occasionally you'll get a loud, drunk couple talking at 2am, but otherwise nothing. We've had rooms near mid-ship stairs and wouldn't get any noise.

We always stay in 5552 on the Dream. It backs up to the forward elevators, which we have never heard, and is beside the back of the movie theater. I can remember hearing a little bit of sound from a Star Wars movie. The most noise I ever remember hearing is a slight metallic wrinkling sound when the ship was underway in rougher seas and while out on the veranda I could hear the clatter of shuffleboard disks a deck below. It sounded like a busy dish room. We never realised there was a family beside us.

It all depends on who is next to you. Most of the time we've found the staterooms to be pretty quiet. However once on the Fantasy we had some folks next door with some pretty loud voices and we heard them all week long. Though now that I think about it, that's the only cruise we've taken on a Dream class ship as all our others have been on either the Magic or the Wonder. I wonder if there is a difference in the construction? :confused3

One other noise we've encountered was on that same Fantasy cruise. We were on Deck 10 right under the pool deck (never again!). Every morning, around 5 AM we woke up to chairs scraping across the deck above us. That was far worse than hearing the people next door, which actually didn't really bother us that much. The only other noise issue we've had (and this is on all of the ships) is the kids running up and down the hall at odd hours, but we usually just laugh at it. I mean, it's a Disney cruise so you are going to have kid noise. Comes with the territory.

Totally agree with the above suggestion about ear plugs. We never travel (anywhere) without them.

We found that if you have an adjoining room set of doors, you can hear the folks next door easier than with a solid wall. We like forward staterooms with few staterooms ahead of us in the ship. This cuts down on the hallway noise. Study the layout of each deck and where the activities, entertainment, clubs and concentrations of people might be and plan your stateroom location accordingly...a bit of a hassle, but worth it.
