Trying to prepare for the worst

We were at WDW on the 27th of January, the day the inspectors report was due to the UN. There was a lot of security around the parks that day, and every day we were there after that. I believe that Disneyworld is taking it serious and is taking every precaution possible. Security was thorough in checking every bag, fanny packs, camera cases etc. (We took our stroller and packed diapers etc in clear zip lock to make the proces go faster). It didn't stop there we noticed the disney security folks walking around the parks all day.
We just got back, but if we had the extra money and vacation time I'd go back there in a heartbeat with the family tomorrow. Evil has to be fought, not feared. Just remember not every muslim is an extremist. There were a few muslim families there when we were, we tried to go out of our way to make them and their children comfortable. I really felt for their children and what they must be facing. We ate a lunch in Epcot-Morroco to teach the children not to be afraid of any people, the CM's there were very kind, and even spoke a little Arabic for our kids.
Go and have fun.

Although I agree that there is a level of concern, I won't be stopped from living my life regardless. Something horrible could happen just as easily near my own home as Orlando and although my next trip is a little way off, if I were going soon, I still would not change any plans. I just live my life as I always have but I do try to appreciate each and every day that I am blessed to have. I refuse to give in to terrorists and their nonsense.

I'm just irritated that after a year of planning a dark cloud just came out over MY vacation......but then, who are we kidding...this could happen at any time not just on a "orange" level of concern.

I still plan on going in June and went Dec 2001. But, I also am leery because if I remember correctly, after 9/11 someone said that theme parks were/could be a target.

We can't let terrorists put an end to our very day life and plans....or in a sense they win.

Thanks for everyone's replies...believe me in no way am I going to let those $%#* terrorists wreck our vacation! We have planned way to long for this to be afraid of the smallest possiblity of a terrorist attack. And I totally agree with the person who posted that it is also our responsibility as American citizens to be on the look-out ourselves for anything or anyone who might be behaving oddly. I went to DL one month after 9/11 and once we were in the parks, I didn't even think about crazy people, etc. I was totally immersed in the magic and having a blast watching my 4 year old soak in Disney for the first time (he had gone before as a baby, so this was his real first time getting it) and this time I'm going to have a blast watching him and his younger brother having the time of their lives...and us too!

I know I read somewhere that WDW is not an "ideal" target for terrorists because of the large area it encompasses. Part of the same article said targets that have a more widespread effect are most "optimum". Like the plane into the WTC, crippled the airline industry, knocked out cellular service, brought a major part of the commerce world to a stand still----pardon the pun but the article kinda implied more bang for their buck thinking.

There really wouldn't be global effects if WDW was destroyed, except of course the human life lost (which I in no way intend to minimize). Just trying to convey the feel of the article.

I have no educated reason to accept this article as fact, but it does make me feel a little better even it is wrong!

people who reported taking no vacation for 5 yrs are at a much higher risk of heart disease.
Well, I'll have to remember this little tidbit of info after our next trip when DH says he'd rather wait a long while before going again. *wink*
