So I thought I had this all sewn up. A DF who lives up in Portland is graduating from college in June and I promised I would be there. When I priced out the flights, I found it was pricey, but I had money in my little slush fund or I'd suck it up and use some extra miles from my FF account; I also thought about flying into Vancouver BC and taking the train down and enjoying the scenery (I can get to Vancouver on just a few miles, but not Portland. Go figure.), but quickly realized that I would incur a hotel room for one night doing that, plus the $100 for the train ride.
So I decided I would suck it up and buy tickets or use the FF (I'd get to fly first class, which would be fun) miles.
Well, DH and I have decided to take advantage of me doing work in Orlando and tack on a little itsy vacation before DH starts work on an Outage (he'll work 60 to 100 hours a week during this period) that will last from October to January.
But my vacation slush fund will be empty because of my trip to Portland. I decided I would buckle down, cut out all the frou frou from our budget and should easily have the money for Disney by September without touching any of our real savings.
But it would be a LOT easier on my peace of mind if I could get to Portland cheaply! I've tried doing flights that would involve taking the train or renting a car from everywhere in Washington and Oregon that's reasonable. (I just need to get TO Portland on the cheap.) The only possible I've got is Vancouver.
I don't want to take more than 2-3 days off work for this, so I'm limited there.
Anyone know of a clean, safe, cheap cheap cheap hotel in Vancouver that's near the train station? Taking the train is still a possibility and sounds like a lot of fun.
I'm tracking fares on Kayak with an alert to me if a cheap fare to Portland comes up, but nuttin' so far.
I think I'm just going to have to face reality, buckle down and cut all the frou frou out of my budget until September. Library, I've missed you!
