Ok...

This is open to all the golfers around....

I am trying to decide if I am bring the clubs when we are there from the 10th - 17th of December....

I know I can call and book for myself and get teamed up with others. But, I do not want to bring them and not play.

I know it sounds funny, but I would rather have a game or 2 setup before I left...

Let me know if anyone if around and game.... I am a 15 handicap.

If you think this might help http://www.progolfguides.com . I'm not quite as good as you (20 hcap) but I found the playing lesson with a PGA teaching pro helped my game more than any other lesson I've had. Phil was great company, he'll also pick up/ up/drop you from/at your hotel, provide clubs if needed. He won't try to make any major changes to your swing, unless he sees a glaring error (I agree with his thinking that in one lesson that's impossible) but help work on course management. I think to see someone actually play a course ( as opposed to the driving range) gives them a better idea of how you really play, but also it shows him how you mentally approach the games and any problems you encounter.
His normal method is to give you 6 or 7 holes without any input ( so he can get a fair gauge) then will give you some thoughts and ideas of how to manage a course and cut shots off your round.
He'll take groups of up to three, obviously the cost per person goes down with the less individual time he can give each person, but IMHO it offers very good value. You can choose which course you'd like to play, he has a working arrangement with a lot of the local courses so he can get some good discounts for some great courses off WDW property, although if you have a DVC golf membership he might be talked into a better deal for your lesson as he doesn't get onto the WDW courses very often and likes to play there.

Unfortunately I'll just miss you, I get into WDW on the 20th :(

Definitely bring your sticks! There is no reason not to play; you don't need to have a foursome set up before you go out.

I know that many people play golf only with their set group of buddies, but I have found that one of the great joys of the game is going to the course alone and being put together with three strangers. It's a great way to meet and interact with people who are different yet share one important thing in common: they're all golfers.

A playing lesson also sounds fun, but either way you should worry about bringing your clubs and not using them. You'll get the chance if you just take it.

Ok...

If that is the case... Should I try book ahead? Or just call a day early and see when I can jump on..

Thanks.

Sorry we won't be there when you are or we would golf with you. Your idea to try to get a group together is a good one though and I will do the same when we go to WDW.

DH always makes his reservations as early as possible. He purchases the annual DVC golf card and tries to get a tee-time as close to 10:00 as possible (the earliest allowed with the card). When both of us play, we do the same thing. In cooler weather, we might try for a noon tee-time. He/We are paired up with other people to make a foursome. We enjoy the opportunity to meet new people and have never had a bad experience. Once we were paired with a guy who should have been playing putt-putt golf instead of real golf. He was so bad. It didn't really bother us because we know there are different levels of golfers out there, but he was getting really irritated and mad and that caused us to not have such a good time.

Just make your tee-time (for 1 player) as early as you can prior to your trip and have a good time with whever your playing partners happen to be.

What about this golf card I am reading about?

This is the first time I have seen anything written.. Or have I just missed the info on it?

Please let me know.

Thanks

Dh always brings his clubs with him. It is the main way I get him to go to WDW so often :) He golfs, I do park stuff - it's great for both of us.
He had always enjoyed playing with those he is paired with. He calls ahead to get his tee times. And he's taken a few lessons and he has enjoyed those also. He even got a lesson for his birthday a few years ago.

The courses are beautiful. Some are more challenging than others. His favorite is Lake Buena Vista. We're staying at OKW this trip and hope to get a golf course view room.

Enjoy and may your score be a low one!!

My husband brought his clubs last time and it was easy. They store them for you and if you are golfing at more than one course they will transport them for you and have them waiting. He really enjoyed that perk. Someone should start a golf meet board, like the DIS meet. My husband golfs, but I don't so he is always looking for a 2nd person for a twosome or a foursome to join.

Boy, lsutigger2, at least now I know I'm not the only one. DH's favorite thing about the parks is probably that they keep me from nagging him about playing golf so much. You'll love staying at OKW if your DH is planning to play LBV. Make sure he brings his camera. One of DH's favorite pictures is the one he took of the Villa we had that he took while on the golf course. He also loves LBV.

Definitely take your clubs and definitely get you tee times. You can always cancel, but you wont want too. There are also discounts for AP holders and Fl. res. I love to golf there but never get the chance as the trips are used to enjoy our grand kids. I have played all the courses and Dec is perfect time to play. Enjoy:cool:

Tee times are definitely the way to go, especially if you're staying on property because you can make them 90 days out. The trick is to get the earliest possible tee time at the reduced rate you want (i.e., 10:00 or 3:00) because it can save you big bucks. You can always cancel your tee time later.

Well..

I am thinking about it. Not sure if the clubs will make the trip this year or not...

I know.... disappointing, but there are lots of things on the agenda this time around. So, I guess I am leaving that discision for a few more weeks....

Mind you, once the snow hits the ground here in late November or early December, maybe I will change my mind fast... hehehe.

Don't forget about the 9 hole course, Oak Trail! It's between Palm and Magnolia. It's cheap (by Disney standards), you can walk it if you want, (pull carts are provided) and you'll use every club in your bag. I've played it several times with my clubs and rented clubs. They used to rent a set with a walking bag that was cheaper than the full set and the staff bag.

I have to join the group and say my favorite course to play 18 is LBV. OKW is our home resort and we always ask for a golf course view.

I just checked the Disney Golf web site. Riding carts are NOT available for Oak trail and pull carts are $6. $38 dollars for 9 holes with a $19 replay charge. These rates apply all day.

DIS golf meets would be great! There are only two of us, so it would be great to find another person or another couple to golf with.... :)

My husband played last time we were down. Since we had two small children and all their stuff, I didn't let him bring his clubs.

He rented clubs there. He said they were very nice clubs (I can't remember the brand) and wouldn't hestiate to do that again. You can call and ask what they rent if you are picky.

My parents brought their clubs along (they were going on to Sarasota to golf), and the airline lost their clubs on the way home.

Another alternative to lugging your clubs with you is to send them to WDW via FedEx. The cost for me is $17 and that includes the packaging bag that FedEx provides and insurance. Your cost may vary depending upon where you live and how much insurance you want.

Disney will move your clubs from course-to-course during your stay. At the end they will send the clubs home for you. You need to provide them with a paid shipping number. They take care of the rest.

It is best to contact the "Club Storage" department and let them know you are sending the clubs. Call WDW Golf at 407-WDW-GOLF (407-939-4653).

Ship To:
Disney's Bonnet Creek Golf Club
3451 Golf View Drive
Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830

FedEx Medium Bag (included in price):
The shipping bag is 66 inches by 24 inches and is stated to hold up to a 51 inch by 15 inch golf bag.

I always bring my own sticks but I have played with people who have rented and they had King Cobras and Callaways...I think they were $50..I dont know if you have a choice..Osprey is the most challenging...and the nicest by far..I played as a single once and happened to be paired with a DVC member and he explained it all to me..Ii was not a member at the time..I bought my first 150 points on that trip..so I would say it is good to play with people you dont know.

I'd agree. On our first trip as members, DH got paired with someone who'd stayed at OKW, we hadn't. Well, I think he had about the same enthusiasm for OKW as many here, including Richyams. From that, we looked forward to a stay at OKW and now DH has joined the ranks of OKW loyalists. I'm so glad because previously he was a reluctant WDW visitor. The other night he said to me, "We'll get to OKW next summer if I have to walk there, but I'm not hooked or anything!"

I Agree..

We need to post a schedule of when we will be there, so we can check out if anyone will be there.
