Trying to decide if a cruise is the best choice?

We had the most magnificent vacation at Disney World in September....We want to wait about 2 years before returning there again. We are trying to plan our vacation for next year and the Disney Cruise sounds wonderful...I do have some concerns: Sea sickness
Flying four hours from Boston and then getting on the
cruise, are you tired?
Is 6y/o a good age for a cruise?
Is the cost the same as if you stayed at a deluxe in
the park?

I will continue to read these boards and gather information. I do appreciate your input. I guess I'm leary about being on the ocean also....Thanks

If the very thought of being on the ocean upsets you, then a cruise is NOT for you. But if it is only the potential for seasickness, I would suggest a visit to your physician to discuss preventative measures - everything from SeaBands wristbands to Dramamine, ginger supplements, the prescription "patch" (I've heard it is excellent). The stabilizers on Disney ships are excellent and motion is minimal in most cases.

With a 4-hour flight (not counting airport time?), you would need to arrive the day before and spend the night at a nearby hotel so you would be relaxed and not stressed about possibly missing the departure.

You should speak to your 6-year old about the Disney cruise and special activities for kids and determine if he/she is interested. Most kids love it.

Cost varies and there are great deals for early booking. A great place to start is the DCL website. Go through the entire site, then select your choices in their online quote system. That doesn't mean you have to book there, but it will give you an idea of their prices. Your travel agent, AAA, and various other places may provide a better deal, but you will have a starting point.

If sea sickness is your concern, I believe there a number of products on the market today for that. Also, check with your doctor for a prescription that may help you.

We took the 2/10 4-night Wonder cruise a couple of weeks ago and barely felt the movement of the ship at all the whole trip. It is just amazing how they come up to the dock as light as a feather!

Your 6 year old will love the Disney cruise and all the programs for kids there.

Arrive from Boston a day or two before the cruise and you'll be refreshed and ready to go. Your travel agent can advise a plan that would suit you.

Best wishes.

You can't beat the value for hotel, food, entertainment and transportation! Agreed that Disney Cruise Line is more expensive than the other lines. Can't wait to sail on her, was booked for her first sailing but backed out when the inaugural was delayed. We were very fortunate to be given a secret porthole room when we called to make our reservation.
