First off I want to wish you luck! I am also very interested in what kind of information you get regarding your diet and diabetes and they type of diet that is best for you I am working with someone who has that issue and she really is not doing well with her diet. Biggest problem is making wrong choices. I'd really like to encourage her to make better ones.

i'm sorry i don't have any advice regarding diabetes but i wanted to say

Ever looked into South Beach? It is not such much about watching carbs as watching sugar. That might be up your alley!

Congratulations on the 10 pounds! Those last 20 seem to me to be the most difficult.

My Mom who has recently been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes at age 90 had to go through counseling for what to do with her management of this. Thankfully it is being managed with better eating choices that I will relay after I say the next. My DSis also has been fighting with type 2 for quite some time and has about exhausted her insulin injection opportunities. She is currently involved in some sort of experimental program as I understand.

DSis has always insisted that there is no “diet” per se for a diabetic person. My Mom has learned the same.

What Mom has explained to mr through her counseling with a dietitian is that managing life through healthy lifestyle choices is the recommendation. Find that food pyramid and do your best to balance within that. Southbeach is a good idea if it works for you. There are free internet programs that will allow you to record all that you are consuming so that you can see exactly where you are within the basic food pyramid recommendations. From there you can tweak your needs to meet your specific desired results.

I would recommend to get moving (going back to the gym is good), muscle helps to move food through to your needed areas more efficiently. Keep hydrated as our bodies require fluid. And then make those healthy food choices.

Try your best to not think of that “D” word. Use healthy choices to fuel your body. Proper and balanced portions will be your friend. I’ve seen myself more successful when I take my portions and try to split them into having something to eat more frequently, just not having more to eat though. Calories in still need to be less than calories out in order to effect weight loss. Just don’t go into starvation mode over it.

I think you have that time to get there before DH comes back to you. Work on it in a way that you will have success. Make that success happen. Plan small things you can do to help you. Find a way to have fun (join a workout group at they gym, post here…).

Come often, post lots. Let us know how you are doing and help us along the way too!

Schedule your success! You can do it!
:cheer2:
