Trying the DIY Route - Question about Mac

Thanks to everyone for the wonderful ideas that are out there! I have a new Mac and this is my first Mac experience. I've read the instructions for doing word fills with WordArt in Word and I think I understand how that works. Right now, I have Pages. I also downloaded Open Office hoping I could find a way to do word fills in one of those programs but so far, I haven't been successful. I have googled looking for help but run into dead ends.

Is there anyone out there who could point me in the right direction for software? I'm willing to buy whatever I need but I don't know what I need.

Photoshop Elements....the current version is 11 but you maybe able to get a really ggod price on 10 (that I use) with no really functionality loss for DISigning!
