Trying new places & returning to favorites! *Update 3/13* Final Thoughts

Mmmm, we love 'Ohana!

And now, so do I! :thumbsup2

Great reviews - can't wait until we try Ohana :)

Oh, your pictures made me hungry! I am excited to try "Ohana now after hearing you liked it and seeing your food pics. I have had doubts after reading reviews and have scheduled and cancelled and rescheduled my ADR's again. I guess if it turns out that I am like your friend and don't like it, I will at least have a fun experience with my Mom who loves dining out and loves all food. We have 750 ADR's and arriving early so I hope to catch a glimpse of Wishes.

:welcome:, disneybex and Cin! Hope you like 'Ohana as much as I did!

Cin, I will say my friend can be a picky eater, LOL! Like me, Angie doesn't care for coconut, so she didn't like the bread, either. She doesn't eat salad, and on the rare occasion that she does, she eats it without any dressing... so that was strike 2. She doesn't eat many vegetables, and she doesn't like pot stickers. Now that I think about it, I'm not sure what she even ate during our meal!

Wow, your meal at 'Ohana looks and sounds awesome:thumbsup2 It is one of the places that we couldn't get in to for our last trip, but were lucky enough to get an ADR for it this time around. Can't wait to try it. We have it booked for 7pm in hopes of catching Wishes from the Poly beach!!

You'll have to let me know what you think! You should have plenty of time to eat and then wander down to the beach for Wishes :thumbsup2

Now THAT is a plate of noodles- haha! SO glad Ohana has noodles now- I haven't been since they didn't- but I always found it too much meat without enough carb in the past!

:welcome:, jude&jonah! The noodles were really yummy! And yeah, that would be a lot of meat without any carbs, LOL!

Our next meal together was lunch at Animal Kingdom. We decided on Flame Tree BBQ… I had wanted to eat here on our last family trip, but my DDs liked the kids options better at Pizzafari. So this was my first experience with Flame Tree… I'm pretty sure Angie hadn't been here before, either but I'm not sure if Kat had.

The three of us each used a CS credit: Kat and I both chose the pulled pork sandwich, while Angie went with the smoked turkey breast sandwich. I can't remember if we had a choice of side, or just asked to substitute fries. And I don't have any photos of our sandwiches, but I really wish I did so you could see how big they were! Kat and I could have easily shared one pulled pork sandwich, while Angie's turkey sandwich was probably enough to feed a family of four! Okay, that was a bit of an exaggeration, but it was a really big sandwich! And they were quite tasty, too!

Even though we had fries, Kat and I shared a basket of onion rings which were also very yummy.

The one photo from our lunch that I do have is of our desserts… we all chose the chocolate mousse:

DSCN5877.jpg

The mousse itself was okay… I really liked the fudge topping, though!

Overall, I thought Flame Tree was a good choice for a counter-service meal. The menu has quite a few choices on it, and the portions are generous. This is definitely one place I'd keep in mind for future trips!

Flame Tree was really yummy!

I had not been there - and after seeing a picture here on the DIS, I knew I needed to have that pulled pork sandwich and the onion rings.

And, actually, we did not get fries with our meals. I think they came with coleslaw, and they would not allow substitutions. So we paid out of pocket for the french fries and onion rings. And it was worth it!

You're right! Now I remember how you had talked about your DH would've liked the slaw. I should have conferred with you before writing my review ;)

Up next were the chicken wings and pot stickers. Soooooo good. Even now I am drooling!

Stir-fry veggies and egg noodles were brought next. Both were very good, as well. I really liked the noodles, they had some sort of peanut sauce on them.

I took my DD to O'hana last month, not sure we would like it, but after reading reviews really wanted to try. The salad was so good, I did almost eat the whole bowl myself. The bread was good but I don't care for coconut. I could have eaten several more bowls of broccoli (which I am normally not thrilled about). I don't know what they do to it but it was great.

Neither of us were thrilled with the meat other than a couple pieces of beef. I made up for it with the dessert. The night before I went to Raglan Road for just the bread pudding and we both really didn't like it. I was so surprised how much I loved O'hana's. I'm going back for just the salad, broccoli and dessert as soon as possible! My DD16, like Angie, didn't like anything and left hungry...she won't be going back with me.

Loving your reviews!! They are making me so hungry!

Thanks, SweetSpot! And :welcome:!

During our dinner, I even joked that if I were to eat at 'Ohana's again, they'd have to bring 2 bowls of salad... one for me, and one for the rest of the table!

When Kat booked our ADRs, dinner at Rose & Crown was the one I was looking most forward to. I'd never eaten here before, and after looking at the menu I was sure I'd have a great meal!

Our reservation was for 7. I think Kat was checking us in right at 7, and asked if we could be seated on the patio. The CM said she could seat us there but we might have to wait a bit. But we didn't wait very long, maybe 10 minutes at the most, and we did get a table outside.

Since this was our last dinner together, we decided to splurge! Angie and I both ordered drinks, while Kat and I both ordered appetizers.

Angie had the Magical Star Cocktail:

I had a glass of a very nice Riesling:

DSCN5889.jpg

For the appetizers, I ordered the Romaine Salad with bacon, mustard vinaigrette, and house-made cheddar scones:

DSCN5891.jpg

The salad was very good… not quite as good as the salad from 'Ohana I had the night before, but still quite yummy!

Kat ordered the appetizer trio (Scotch eggs, potato leek soup, and beef pasty):

DSCN5895.jpg

I didn't try the Scotch egg, as I don't care for eggs nor sausage. The soup was really good, but I thought the pasty was just okay... I don't recall it having much of a taste.

Angie and I both ordered the Sunday roast as our entree:

DSCN5897.jpg

It was very good! All of it, the roast, the green beans, the potatoes, the Yorkshire pudding… everything was delicious.

I don't have a photo of Kat's entree, but she ordered the sirloin and fish. I tried a bite of her sirloin and do remember thinking that while my roast was very good, I actually liked her sirloin better.

We each ordered a different dessert. First up, Kat ordered the Chocolate Scotch Cake:

DSCN5901.jpg

Angie's choice was the Friut Trifle:

DSCN5899.jpg

And I chose the Sticky Toffee Pudding, but asked for a scoop of vanilla ice cream instead of vanilla custard (I'm not a custard fan, and I'm glad I asked for the ice cream because the pudding needed something to cut its sweetness).

Our waiter was Joe from Belfast, and while he was very charming, he was not in any hurry, whatsoever. The entire meal took three hours. THREE HOURS! Granted, part of that was due to IllumiNations… had it not been going on there wouldn't have been any reason for us to linger at our table. But, still.

I really enjoyed our R&C dinner and would love to eat here again! The food was really good, and though we didn't have the best view, having a place to sit and watch IllumiNations was a plus.

Your Rose and Crown dinner looks really good

I've been seeing lots of good reviews lately so they really seem to be doing a good job there :thumbsup2

Both Flametree and Rose and Crown are on our list of spots to eat, and I am so glad now after hearing your reviews of them. The food looks so delicious, I can hardly wait!!!

Rose and Crown looks great! Its had been getting some mixed reviews but lately it seems to be doing much better. I'm glad I got us an ADR there for next week!

Recently, there has been many positive reviews of Rose and Crown. However, 3 hours sound ridiculous for dinner (even with Illuminations). Our Cali Grill dinner with Wishes wasn't that long! But everything looks very yummy.

I'm in, and you're already 5 pages in to your dining review! Where have I been?!

I LOVE the pics of Ohana. Even more excited about our meal there now.

Can't wait to read the rest of our reviews.

I like the Rose & Crown, always have. Must be having worked for an Irish company and been to Ireland many times, but I feel comfortable there. LOL I had the fish and chips and it was yummy and DH had the Pot Pie whatever which shocked me, he's never eaten a pot pie of any kind in my presence, but he liked it. I loved my Cider and Black, brought back memories of trips to Ireland. :)

i completely agree- those icee's are the most refreshing snack for a hot day. I need to try Cape May- love seafood! and Rode and Crown looks really good. Its on my list, but there are just soooo many choices there and my family subscribes to the boring countries thinking:headache:

It even tasted better than it looked, LOL! ;)

You both will have to let me know what you think of R&C when you get back!

Joe just took his sweet time with everything, LOL! For example, when he came to ask us about dessert, I asked if I could substitute the ice cream for the custard. He said he'd have to check, which he then did. A bit later he comes back to say, yes, the substitution was allowed... then he walks off! So we had to wait for him to come back to actually take our dessert orders. Good thing we didn't have anywhere to be after dinner!

The fish I tried from Kat's plate was the same that's served as the fish and chips... it was good. But that pot pie does sound yummy!

R&C was my first time dining at one of the table-service restaurants of the World Showcase. (Well, other than lunch at Akershus... but I'm not coating that, as I pretty much only ate the bread, LOL!) There are a lot of great places to choose from... I don't know why we've never gone to any of the others before! This will be rectified on future trips!

This was my first visit to Goofy's Candy Co., and I'm pretty sure I left a pool of drool on the floor while I was there! Just look at all these scrumptious goodies:

Cupcakes, cookies, chocolate covered apples, fudge… the list goes on!

I used a snack credit on one of the chocolate dipped pretzel rods. There were some with toppings like nuts or M&Ms… I chose one with crushed Butterfinger bits. Oh, it was so yummy! Salty and sweet is my favorite taste combination and this was perfect!

I too LOVE sweet and and salty! I think I'll have to try this :cool1:

Oooo...that is my favorite, too - sweet and salty. I got two of those pretzel rods - I think they were both m&m -there might have been an oreo one, too. I got one for Madalyn and one for me. But she had so many other sweets - I think I ate them both ;)

Totally give the Butterfinger one a try! It was yummy!

Kat, Angie, and I had one last meal together before they left to go home. After checking out of Pop, we headed to Downtown Disney and had lunch at Earl of Sandwich. Not only was this my first time eating here, but it was also the first time I visited DTD!

I think it was around 11 when we got to the restaurant. Kat and Angie went to place our orders while I snagged a table. My sandwich of choice was the Italian:

DSCN5913.jpg

It had salami, capicola, ham, mortadella, mozzarella cheese, and Italian dressing… and it was a very good sandwich!

DSCN5916.jpg

On previous trips with my DH and kids, we never had the time to go to DTD. We'll definitely have to on our next family trip, though... and lunch at EofS is a must! There are several sandwiches I know my DH would like, and even a few that I'd like to try!
