Trying new places & returning to favorites! *Update 3/13* Final Thoughts

I'm not a big breakfast eater, so during my trip I just ate breakfast in the room (unless we had a breakfast scheduled). Cereal or a granola bar, and I was good to go! So my first official meal at WDW was lunch at La Cantina de San Angel at Epcot.

Kat, Angie, and I shared an order of nachos and churros:

corn tortilla chips with ground beef, nacho cheese, tomatoes, black beans, and sour cream

We decided to share since we knew we'd be eating more as we made our way around the World Showcase. But there was plenty to go around... the serving was huge! And very good. I would have liked more tomatoes (and possibly some shredded lettuce) and could have done without the black beans. (Oh, and the nachos also come with jalapenos, but we asked to leave those off.) Overall, the nachos were yummy.

The churros were delicious! Quite possibly my favorite snack in all of WDW.

What was also great about this lunch was that we took our food inside La Hacienda de San Angel to eat. The table service restaurant only serves dinner, so for lunch it will open up to allow seating for La Cantina. There were plenty of tables on the La Cantina patio, but it was nice to sit inside where it was cool. And it gave me a chance to check out the inside of La Hacienda!

This was the 2nd time I've eaten at La Cantina, and I would not hesitate to do so again! :thumbsup2

Already you're making me rethink my counter service meals!!!:headache::rotfl:
We ate there on our last trip and I loved it, but had heard it wasn't as good anymore not to mention the fact that dd and myself are the only ones in our group who likes this type of food I opted not to go there this time.
However, seeing that photo and hearing your review makes me think that dd and I just might have to share an order of those nachos and churros and let the boys fend for themselves somewhere else!!:rotfl2:

Can't wait to hear more reviews!!!

Mmmm... Nachos!

Good tip on being able to take food inside Hacienda! We didn't make plans to eat there, but it's a good choice for a snack if we need a break from the heat!

Getting hungry and it's not even lunch yet! I seriously need to not read any TR invovling food before 12 noon.:lmao:

i should not have opened this thread when i was hungry:lmao: those nachos look so tasty! i love the tip about La Hacienda. I wanted to eat in there but the kids aren't crazy for the menu. they could totally handle nachos though!

We love La Cantina Nachos! :lovestruc Last time, we shared one between three and it's perfect for snacking around the WS.

great start. those nachos look delish. Think i will be stopping at La Cantina next trip. we are going to o'hana (dinner), Crystal palace (early dinner before mnsshp) and sci fi (lunch) so looking forward to those reviews. We love starring rolls and karmell kuche. can't wait to go next month.

Go for it! There's plenty to share, and this way you can try a little of this, little of that!

I wish I had known this little tip last year... we had lunch at La Cantina and sat on the patio. It was crowded and the only table available was right in the sun... HOT!

I love those nachos! Huge portion too

:welcome:, MickeyNicki!

The nachos were tasty! And the CMs were very nice about not including the jalapeños, so I'd say if you wanted to leave off other stuff (if the kids don't like it) that wouldn't be a problem.

On our previous trips, DH and I never shared an counter-service meal. Which now makes me wonder how much food we wasted, as this was enough for 3 people to share!

:welcome:, DLo! You have some great ADRs planned! :thumbsup2

I am enjoying your review so far. Hurry please with the rest. :cheer2:

Thanks, and :welcome:, Busymom! I'm trying to get the next update posted... someone just needs to tell these pesky kids to make their own dinner, do their own laundry, etc. ;)

During our trek around the World Showcase, Kat decided to get a mango smoothie while we were in China. At first, Angie and I passed… but when we took a sip of Kat's smoothie, we had to get one for ourselves! Angie got mango, also, but I went for the strawberry.

I don't have a close-up photo of the smoothie to show, and I wish I did so you could see that it's not a typical "smoothie". To me, a smoothie is made with yogurt. This was more like a slushie/icee… and it was very delicious! In fact, when I went back to Epcot during the 2nd part of my trip I made sure to get another one! Very refreshing and a great way to cool off during the hot afternoon!

Other snacks we devoured were from Boulangerie Patisserie in France. I chose the plain croissant while Kat chose a chocolate one. Angie went with the chocolate eclair. Unfortunately, I don't have pictures of these. We had pretty much devoured these goodies before I'd even thought to grab my camera! The croissant was perfect… light and buttery, just the way a croissant should be.

Coming soon: Cape May Clam Bake!

Oooohhhh, happy buttery french pastry goodness! I think one morning I'm skipping breakfast just to try a croissant.... the only good ones around here are at a French bakery in Baltimore, but I cannot justify a 2 hour drive for pastry.:lmao:

Those smoothie/slushies look good too!:thumbsup2

That mango smoothie was yummy. We have this Bath and Body works soap at the kitchen sink - mango margarita - and every time I wash my hands, I think about those smoothies in China. Yum. Yum. Yum.

I have a picture of my chocolate croissant - but not of your plain butter one. Oh...and I have those pictures of Angie licking the plate that had her eclair. But we are pretending those don't exist! ;)

HAHA I'd be licking the plate too! We got the Nachos too and they are a big serving, we didn't finish them. Didn't realize there was inside seating till we were leaving, or that you could go to La Hacienda. Sat in the sun on the deck so the kids could have the shade and stop complaining about being in the "boring countries!"

Yeah, that does seem a bit far to go just for a pastry!

subscribing - the nachos look lovely except for that weird cheese sauce that covers them in Florida

:welcome:, chocolateMinnie! The cheese does look strange, but it tastes good!

Enjoying reading so far!

Yum, I can't wait to hear more :)

:welcome:, NHTikiBeckie and Chaitali! Another review is coming soon!

HA! I did the same last year, let the girls sit in the shade while I had the chair in the sun. The things we moms do for our kids... ;)

Our reservation for dinner at the Cape May Clam Bake was at 8:05. I know we checked in early, but how early I can't remember. Kat, Angie, and I sat in the lobby of the Beach Club until our table was ready.

Now, Angie and I aren't big fans of seafood. So you might wonder why we would choose to go to a Clam Bake for dinner! But Kat does love seafood, and one of the things I do like is fried calamari. Cape May has fried calamari on the menu Thursday nights, so that's why Kat booked this ADR. I checked out the menu beforehand and saw that the buffet also included non-seafood food, so I was pretty sure I'd find something I'd like!

We were seated and our waitress came promptly to get our drink orders and to tell us about the selections on the buffet. Here's a photo of my 1st plate:

DSCN5837.jpg

(starting at the top and going counter-clockwise) fried calamari with marinara sauce, new potatoes, corn on the cob, garlic roll with butter, penne with tomato and spinach, panko-crusted white fish (I can't recall what type of fish), mac & cheese (yes, from the kids buffet!)

Everything on my plate was very good. I really liked the penne, the calamari was delicious, and the fish was yummy (I wish I could remember what it was called… Kat, maybe you can help me out?)

There were also salads on the buffet, but I didn't have any. Other buffet selections were clam chowder, crab legs, mussels, rotisserie chicken, and pizza. Angie said the pizza was very good. :lmao:

Now for a photo of my 2nd plate:

DSCN5842.jpg

(starting at the top and going counter-clockwise) prime rib, garlic mashed potatoes, ribs, cornbread, and more of the penne!

I didn't care much for the prime rib (it tasted okay, and I'm sure I didn't like it mainly because prime rib is my least favorite cut of meat), but the ribs were totally yummy! The meat was fall-off-the-bone tender and the sauce was delicious.

The only desserts I sampled were the Beach Cub's Signature Oreo Bon Bons. Here's our plate of Bon Bons before:

And after:

I'll let you be the judge of whether or not we liked them.

We had a very good dinner, and I think I'd like to eat here again. My DH likes most seafood, as does my oldest daughter… so I think they would be very happy with the buffet. The only seafood my youngest will eat is fried popcorn shrimp (she says it tastes like chicken)… but as long as she could get mac & cheese off the kids buffet, she'd be happy! I will definitely keep Cape May in mind for our next family trip.

The food looks awesome!!
I'm glad that you enjoyed your meal there. It's not on our list this time, but might be on a future trip!
