The fact that I am about to mention is hurtful to the Haunted Mansion purist, but it is FACT. For those people that have NO nostalgic connection to the Haunted Mansion and visit the Mansion for the first time, most of them find it kinda cheezy. To them the Ballroom Dancers are nothing more statues wax statues on a spinning wheel and the pop-up ghost are nothing more than masks on a broom handle.

The fact is, most of the people that loved the Mansion, love it due to nostalgic reasons and how what they seen when they were a kid seemed cutting edge.

In my opinion, there is a way to fix that. Use modern technology, but do not change the character. They can simply display the character in a more advanced style. The Ballroom dancers can be recordings of actual people dancing. The pop- up ghost can use mist-like effect that is a lot more realistic and modern.

Disney realizes this fact. Since 1997, all the enhancements to the Mansion have been geared to be less cartoony and more realistic.

The fact is simple. If it does not evolve in time, it will die. YES! In time the purist will decrease and there will be nothing left but the current new crowed that find it cheezy.

It is true, if you use modern technology in the wrong way it can ruin things, but I think the moves Disney has made with the Mansion in the last 13 years has been great.

Before you all rip my head off, ask yourselves, do you think Walt would want outdated technology in his attractions!!!!!!!!!!!!

and this is typical of what most new poster post with their 11th post.

Apparently you have failed to notice that Disney = Cheesy.

Note: "Cheesy" is not necessarily a bad thing.

You mean to say new posters are thinking outside the box????

Nope. I'm gonna go on a limb and say that he means that you are being naive...

I'm a relatively new poster as well. The first time I rode the HM I was very young and was scared. My parents forced me to go on the next time we went to WDW and I loved it. I realized that while it may not have meant to be a little cheezy, it is and it just kinda decided to roll with it. I'm Still rather young being younger that 25. I haveNO nostalgic relationship to it the HM either, BUT I like it just the way it is.

Just my $0.02

You got that right Mr. Pirate. Disney was created on cheesy humor or should we call it tongue in cheek. Its how they have been able to entertain the young and the old simultaneously as well as to appeal to all ages.

I guess you can say that Disney's theme is reality (word meaning not good).

Wow another person who doesn't get it you sound like a Six Flags person. Also I fail to see how thus nonsense is News or Rumors!

I wondered what the OP meant about the "purest" (the most pure; untainted).

Then I realized that the OP meant a "purist" (traditionalist).

I'm done with is thread you don't have to like HM but what the OP said is not true.

I guess I would consider myself a HM "purist"...it's my all time favorite attraction at any theme park anywhere. I'm not the least bit offended or bothered by what the OP said. I know the HM is cheesy and it's a good cheesy. :)

I'm still trying to figure out why WDW has left off quite a bit of dialog from the Ghost Host spiel for years...that's my biggest problem with the HM here. There wasn't a lot going on in the attic either. I rode it a couple of weeks ago and I must say...that was probably the least I enjoyed it. The missing dialog and the construction really took away from the enjoyment of the attraction...at least for me. :rolleyes1

Will I contine to ride it? Of course...major cheese factor and all. :thumbsup2

OP is correct, evolve or die, but when you do evolve, make it better! Cheesy can still be technologically imporessive if done correctly.

I think it's pretty simple. If you don't like it, then don't go on it. This would allow me to go on it even more.

Cheesy??? To quote Walt... "I only hope that we don't lose sight of one thing - that it was all started by a mouse". :)

The only thing wrong with HM is those stupid cartoony ghosts they JUST put in. Also, the thing with Disney is that nostalgia isn't just for those who saw it years back, honestly nostalgia could be riding it once and looking forward to it again. HM isn't meant to be scary for most crowds...Its cheesy, which is good, cause mice love cheese.

i dont believe the OP is saying he doesnt like it, just that he feels its in need of some major updating.

he has a point, i might not fully agree with it, but he does have one (if it is a he). there are certain things that wont make it better. replacing the ballroom dancers with a projection is a horrible idea. the original reflection technique works well, and it has a far more "real" feel.

but why the OP stops there is beyond me, why not change the jungle cruise and small world and peter pans flight and the snow white ride?

there is very little room for improvement on these attractions. the updates the HM has already seen are enough for me. do we really want another updated journey into imagination ride or tiki room? i think not.

do we really want another updated journey into imagination ride or tiki room?

Yes, absolutely, definitely, and without a doubt we want this more than almost anything else Disney could possibly do.

The only thing the current version of Imagination has going for it is that its a little better than the Journey into Your Imagination version which preceded it. There is no comparison to the almost 29 year old original attraction by either of the newer attempts, which ought to tell us something about what often happens when Disney decides to update a classic attraction.

The original Tiki Room was also vastly superior, which of course is the exact point dpmfloyd was making, that we do not need what happened to JII to happen to the Haunted Mansion. Its just that in the case of something already dumbed-down, then we do need either an update or a return to the original - and remember what happened the last time Disney selected the update option. How did that work out, again?
