HM is a classic. They can high tech up other rides to keep the attention of the video game generation but please don’t suggest changes at HM. This ride is a GEM. Hilarious story, my brother went to WDW with me a few years ago. Having not been there since age two, at thirty he was shocked to realize that a recurring dream he had been having almost all his entire life for which he could not explain the origins was all Haunted Mansion based.

Why have a the scariest ride? then the children who enjoy it now can't? My kids are going to be 7 this year (triplets) they were scared to go on it last year. But of course i made them they loved it. the songs, the ghosts, the ghost in the mirror that sits next you at the end? these are things i remember with my Mom and Dad when i was young and to be able to do it again with my own children is amazing. it a great ride yes we get stuck in it every time we are there. Honestly? that's a great part of it all too!!! The kids are very excited to go back and one of the rides they mention is HM.
I'm very excited to see the expansion. if i want to see a haunted house i can wait until Halloween and go threw one of the commercial ones they have. Or go in one of our neighborhood around Chicago to get scared.
I do wish they did the Nightmare before Christmas decorations in Florida!!!
Disney is the happy place!!!

The most important thing to remember is that Walt Disney envisioned a place where parents and children could enjoy the park together.

The Haunted Mansion is specifically built to be a family ride. It is a ride in which parents can be a part of their child's accomplishment of facing their fears of a haunted ride and being brave enough to make it through and realizing how fun it can be!

I am sure that those families that go to the Disney parks multiple times cherish how precious and fast time goes by as they watch their child avoid any possibility of riding HM, to thinking about riding HM, by being proud that they rode HM! And as Disney legacy goes forward, that child then gets to be in the parent role and watch their own child experience the HM and it reminds them of their childhood.

The constant flow of guests through the HM each day shows that guests love the HM. Could they use their Imagineer talents to modernize some of the special effects, sure. Just like they have done with the ending scene and the hitchiking ghosts. But all in all, it is not only a wonderful ride, a chance for a Magical famly memory - but a wonderful example of Disney history.

I think this has probably been stated in some way but I just want to post my thoughts anyway:

I don't think disney needs to cater to late teens/people in there 20's. I feel people who complain aren't the disney target audience. To kids and parents it doesn't matter that it's the latest tech. The nice thing about disney is the family experience. As a teenager I liked disney but LOVED the faster bigger roller coasters. There is already a place for that. What makes the disney movies so great is it is something the family can enjoy. So taking my kids to disney and being with family makes the park great. Riding rides that we can all go on and they are fun for both is amazing! So Disney has tried updating rides and some have worked and some haven't? So Haunted mansion why spend so much money on the line when you can just update the ride? Why does the haunted mansion get so packed? I stated this before yes small cosmetic changes would be welcome. Updating some things would be great just don't ruin the spirit of the ride. Can you replace the singing heads no! What about the doors and the clock thingy with the hand claw.. NO. The jumping ghosts that pop up behind the graveyards... yes. The dining hall where they are eating is TIMELESS.

Too much now-a-days people want realism. I don't want life to imitate my art. I don't want the guy to die at the end! I want the knight and shining armor to come destroy the dragon and save the princess. I want the cheesy... I want the guy to dive into a pit of a million bad guys and win. You want realism watch the news! Leave my disney fantasy rides cheesy and fun.

I also want to thank the above poster for bringing to light how timeless those rides are. I thought to myself... why don't they make a belle ride? Why don't they make a mickey ride? You know the haunted mansion, potc, jungle boats, all amazing. They aren't selling anything or a result of anything. These rides are just awesome and in the disney spirit.
