Trusted airfare sites.

I am currently looking for airfare for march from Minneapolis to Orlando, air is high, I understand it is spring break and it will be high, but what airfare sites should I stay away from?

I always use www.kayak.com to research flights then book directly with the airline.

I don't have any experience with "bad" sites but what I do is check out kayak, hotwire, expedia and orbitz. Kayak is supposed to check them all but sometimes I find things on the other sites that kayak hasn't shown. I also have a frequent flyer account with Southwest and have their "bing" service which gives me notices when flights are on sale to places I fly often (your program in your own sites). Since I started using SW bing I get most of my airfare from them as they have REALLY good sales and if you know in advance when you want to go you can buy when flights are cheap. Also, I live about 1 hr away from one airport and 1 hr 20 min away from another so I always make sure to check multiple airports. This all sounds like a lot but by checking everything I can often save a TON of money. Good luck!!

As far as I know, kayak has never shown Southwest, and as of late, I've been having issues with it showing JetBlue and/or Airtran as well. I usually check each of those three providers directly, anyhow, though.

The only airline that Kayak doesn't post on their site is Southwest, but you will only ever find Southwest airfares on the Southwest website.

I agree. I used Kayak before and Orbitz but got the best deal this last time using the Southwest site directly. I do feel like you get the best deals by checking with the airline site itself.

I have never used kayak but I do subscribe to Travelzoo and they send me weekly rates. I've gotten airline tickets on there for really good prices. Good luck!

but they don't show Southwest. I don't mind that because we won't fly them but the site is great when I'm juggling times and dates for employees. I really like the "check for a 30 day period for the best flights" feature.

Is there a site that shows what a "good buy" is for certain routes? I thought I'd read about one once but I can't think of it now that I could use it!

Check southwest.com That's the only place you will find them. They fly out of the Humphrey terminal and it's great. You don't have the hassles of the big terminal. Not to mention the other perks like bags fly free. If the price goes down you can change and rebook free online. And if for some reason you have to cancel you get a credit good for 1 year.

I don't have any that I am extremely loyal to, but I will tell you to stay away from Orbitz. We tried to book a flight through them a few months ago, and right when we booked online, we got taken to a page that told us that the fare had just gone up about $25. At first, we thought it was just bad luck and timing, but then we double checked and saw that they were still advertising the price we had originally booked.

When we called to see about getting a refund of the additional $25, we were told that airlines change their rates all the time, and the higher rate was the correct rate. Even though we told them the price had not been updated on their website yet, we kept getting the same excuse. They refused to refund us the $25, so we told them to cancel our flight instead. We thought it was funny that they refused to refund the $25, but would rather lose us as customers instead.
