what is facinating is that neither author wrote novels following their greatest successes. both wrote articles for magazines, and in capote's case he had some made into "holiday books", and some short stories made into compilations, but despite capote's promise, and partial release of chapters from a supposed forthcoming novel, it was never published in entirety.
harper lee did endeavor to write a couple more books, but she was not entirely happy with them and did not publish. i tend to think in her case that she was intellegent enough to realize that mockingbird was such a phenominal work, anything she subsequently attempted to publish would have to be monumental or it would pale in comparison.
