True Detective

Still following the show and very much enjoying watching the story unfold. :thumbsup2

I have not seen the show, but I really want to. I figure over the summer we will subscribe to HBO just to catch up on some of this kind of stuff.

Two episodes left. Do you think one of the detectives is guilty? I don't think MM is because it's clear he is putting tons of time into investigating on his own. Obviously the big fancy minister man knows what is up. Also, it appears to be a rich connected man's game or the town wouldn't be sweeping it under a rug.

Yep...we usually carry HBO and Movie Central from July-Sept and binge-watch Game of Thrones, Episodes, Nurse Jackie & the Newsroom. I'll check this one out then too. As for it being "dark", is it any worse than "The Following"? That's some messed up stuff right there...the only show I've ever stopped watching because of graphic content was "Shameless".

I stopped watching shameless not only because of graphic content but because it made me feel icky. I grew up in an inner city neighborhood and had lots of family members who milked te system and had questionable morals. A little too close to home.

I think they are gonna work together and either bring down the whole cover-up racket or they'll try to and fail. I think Cohl is playing a part - has gone rogue - and will stop at nothing to bring this ring down.

I would say "True Detective" is creepier than "The Following," by far. And it's just a much, much, much better show in every aspect.

I'm really enjoying the show. It is so intense and well-acted, and yes, very dark. I don't really have a theory at this point about how it will resolve. I'm pretty sure neither detective is involved, though. I think casting suspicion on Rust is part of the conspiracy, a way of discrediting the one person who is looking too closely into all of it, and Marty is too self-involved to be part of a conspiracy, for him everything revolves around what he's feeling, doing, and experiencing from moment to moment.

I too do not think it's either detective but they are looking to pin it on Rust. I have a theory and it involves Marty's wife. Anyone think that lady is way calculating? And all the stuff going on with Marty's 2 girls (well really the older one).
So here is my theory:
They found the real original killer (LeDeau...sp???) and had it solved but Marty's wife was out of her mind about that 1st affair and she has since done things to make it look like it wasn't solved(and maybe set up Marty to take the fall)...maybe she was combing through Marty or Rust's files and her older daughter also saw all that (hence some of her odd actions...male nude part drawing, barbie scene...and so on. I won't list everything since not everyone has seen all the episodes). The last episode where it showed why Marty and Rust severed ties (I won't say since not everyone has watched)...well what Marty's wife did may have killed 2 birds with one stone. It ended her marriage definitively and it allowed her to see what Rust was up to and distract him. But I don't know how the preacher and his schools tie in...there is a tie there, but what?

I think its possible Marty's wife's father is involved. I also think his daughter could be heading to being a victim and that might make him work with Cohl.

Oh and his wife is a piece of work. I can't imagine that at no point did they think the daughters needed help.

I also think that her father is involved. I think Martys wife was abused when she was younger and now her children have also been abused.

MM was an actor that I never really cared for before. Since this show, I have become a huge fan. WOW, he is amazing in the part.

To the poster who asked about The Following. This is much more intense than The Following. This year The Following is more of a campy joke that I find myself fast forwarding through, where this show I will rewatch over and over to find clues I may have missed.

If you get HBO, you also get HBO GO. I am loving having HBO GO. It has all the episodes of all the HBO shows. Even those from years ago like OZ and Six Feet Under. I watch them from our Roku box.

This is my favorite show in a long time. I love the dialogue and complexity of the characters. I think it will be a coverup involving the church and bigwigs in the community.

Love this show and can't wait until tonight. I think something is up with Maggie's dad...that he molested the granddaughter and hence her behavior. Not sure how that ties in, though. Don't want the detectives to change!

Jeez. Still don't know where this will go. But I really don't think Marty or Rust are the bad guys. Still not sure about Maggie. Was bummed to see the lawnmower guy at the end...with the scars. Don't want it to be the lawnmower guy as that's too predictable.

Anyone else get the feeling that Hart and/or Maggie are involved with the Tuttle's cult/group?

Maybe Maggie, but I don't see Hart being involved because I don't think he was wealthy enough. I think they have shown these are people with power and money and I don't think Harts family grew up with either.

There are so many lose ends to tie up next week, I hope they don't rush through the ending after leading up this far!

I don't think the lawnmower guy did it, but I think he knows all about who did do it. I think that is what he was trying to tell the 2 detectives last week as they drove away. I think he may have been the clean-up guy, so he was there for all of them.

My guess is no because of how he reacted to to the video and what he saw in the shed.

But then again - you never know!
