Trouble with Ink running on tee shirts?

I made some tee shirts for when my husband and I went on our honeymoon to Disney in Sept/Oct...but we noticed that the black ink ran when it rained. Did anyone else have this problem? I used transfers from AC Moore and printed on a Canon photo printer. Could the printer be the problem?

Thanks,
Jessica

Can anyone help? Thanks so much and sorry for bumping...we leave in 24 days...wasn't going to make shirts but I think DD really wants one...but don't want to have the same thing happen.

Thanks,
Jes

I had shirts done at the mall with a design from one of the ladies here. The T-shirt shop printed the transfers for me and ironed them on. They told me to wash them in cold water and vinegar - no detergent and no fabric softener. I did that, then I hung them dry. The ink bled all over the place. I took the ruined shirt backa nd they made a new one for me. I washed them in cold water and vinegar again and then put them immediately into the dryer. They came out fine. I have washed them several times since then with Tide and they still look good, so maybe drying them after the vinegar helps the ink set? :confused3

Good luck!

Back in the early days of inkjet transfer t-shirt making, as well as when I used to paint on shirts, we used to do a "vinegar wash" to set the ink. They went into the dryer because the heat helped to set it. We still do this with shirts we have air brushed even though no one told us to because I never thought about it. I haven't made shirts in years, but am going to this year.

I am pretty sure you still have to prewash your shirt with detergent and no fabric softener to remove the sizing. It should be washed the same way that you will after the transfer is put on so that any shrinkage takes place before your do the transfer instead of after.

Hope this helps.
