Trouble with Canon Zoombrowser recognizing camera...any hints?

I purchased an A540 in December and after installing the software I noticed that I couldn't download photos from my old S110. Everytime I connected the S110, the Zoombrowser did not detect the camera. I could load photos from my new A540 without problems.

Well, I passed the S110 down to my son to use and he has filled all of the CF cards and I now need to get those photos onto my computer so that he can continue to use the camera.

I spent over an hour and a half on phone today with Canon support. They were unable to resolve the problem. No matter what we tried, the Zoombrowser would not detect the S110. Finally, the woman at Canon told me there is nothing else she can do and I should go buy a card reader. I'm a bit disappointed, to say the least.

Has anyone else had this problem?

I think there's a setting on some Canon cameras that switches between some useless default "custom" mode that will only talk to Zoombrowser, and the usual mode that everyone else on the planet uses that treats the camera as a removable drive. You might want to look for that.

I'd recommend dumping Zoombrowser and getting a card reader anyway - they're cheap and will transfer the photos much, much faster than going directly from the camera.

I was going to ask "did you add any new software?" Hehehehehe

I second using a card reader. Even if you like a specific photo file organizer, it shoudl still work with the reader. THey are as cheap as $10 up to $30 or $40.

....I'm sure I should be able to find one that can read SD and CF cards. I had no idea they were that inexpensive. Thanks.
