Tropicana's Breakfast

I don't know if this has changed in the several years since we went, but this was the place with the doughnut nazi. You got ONE doughnut (old, kind of crusty glazed) and someone watched you with an eagle eye saying "only one, only one". I hope it has improved.

Ugh, that's terrible! I'll stick with my usual hotel (Stovall's), then! :rotfl:

My last stay at the Tropicana was in 2008, and then the breakfast did not have a great variety. There was fruit, juice, small bagels, sweet rolls and maybe dry cereal but not sure about that. We chose to have breakfast at McD's or something in our room (breakfast bars, etc.)

Beats the one old doughnut then :)

:rotfl: We stayed there last March & didn't even realize they had a breakfast there!!! :rotfl2:

Ok, I have been sufficiently scared into changing hotels!!!! :scared1: I would rather stay @ the DLH w/o breakfast than the TI and a crummy breakfast. That was one of the main reasons my mom thought it might be a good idea. Since my boys are not coming, we can easily get groceries delivered or grab something quick in the park.

Thank you everyone for your responses!!!

Isn't this the typical Harbor Blvd. Free breakfast? This is right in line with what I've had there. I called it the token motel free breakfast. Has anyone had anything vastly different in one of those motels?

Yes, but I would probably say that Tropicana has one of the skimpiest breakfasts out of the "token motel free breakfasts". Best Western Park Place Inn (BWPPI) has slightly more variety with several danishes, doughnuts, bagels, cereal, biscuits and gravy, etc. You aren't gonna get any free gourmet breakfasts anywhere very close to the park.

Though the breakfast is not spectacular, I will go back to staying at the Tropicana when my kids grow out of the water playground at Hojo's....You can not beat the proximity to main gates at Tropicana, it is great after a long day at the parks, such a short walk back to motel.
Someday when money is no object, LOL, I will stay at the DLR hotels and soak in all the Disney magic, for now it is Hojos, while kids enjoy water fun there, then back to the Tropicana for close proximity and decent lodging!!

Tropicana breakfast-old donuts that are slightly stale, old pastries that are slightly stale (both packaged), small red apples, small oranges, coffee to drink, the girls could get a single carton of milk and I think you could OJ. We weren't impressed but we did eat it a few times.

Candy Cane has good donuts, good pastries, cereal, juice, tea, coffee, water, milk, they also had oatmeal, toast, bagels w/cream cheese, jam, butter and honey for the toast. by far the BEST free breakfast we've had. CC also has fruit but the fruit quality was better then the Trop also.

We tend to stay at the Peacock (timeshare property) and they have donuts, toast, juice, coffee, tea, milk, cereal and sometimes bagels and various fruits to eat.

I don't get why breakfast would be a reason to switch to the more expensive DLH :confused3 but that may be just me.

DH and I just stayed at the Tropicana at the beginning of May. They were putting in all new furniture teh day we left, with flat screen TVs soon to follow. The bedding, we were told, had already been recently replaced. (I've posted pictures in the Hotel picture thread in here, and will be submitting them to Allears' Disneyland review page as well). We loved staying here!

we didn't have breakfast, but we never checked it out...we just preferred to have dry cereal and walk to the park as we ate it. We should have broguht it with us, or gotten some from a grocery store..but we went for the convenience store that was right there (over priced, imo, but we never made it to the store). but if you have groceries delivered in, or go get some, that's a lot of money saved right there.

It was perfect being so close to the park, and the King room we had was a great fit for us (it is just the two of us). We'll be staying here for the forseeable future when we visit DLR!

Yes, besides the breakfast, it was a decent place to stay and close to the parks.

Ah, ok :) Like I said, we stayed there in May and had no issues. I'm sorry you're experiencing difficulties with them...we really enjoyed our stay there!

Of course we'd love to stay onsite at some point...Grand californian if we can ever swing it :) But that is a long way down the road!
