Tropicana rant

Don't get upset. Just contest the charge on your credit card. When you do that, you'll get a form to fill out to describe why you're contesting the charge. On that form, just say "I'm willing to pay the $xxx that was quoted when I reserved, but not the $yyy that includes parking fees that I never agreed to in advance."

Indeed, when I'm in that situation, I'll tell them that I'm going to contest the credit card charge. That usually gets them to remove the fee right then and there.

Great tip! I fully agree. Good luck, and keep us posted!:goodvibes

This is most insane situation ever been in, went to desk today still no manager called card they gave me still voicemail left another please call me, never seen hotel set up like this before, will update if she ever calls me.

Wow, that is just crummy on so many levels! First that the clerk didn't have the authorization to just comp the parking fee right then and there. Second, that there was no manager available at that moment. Third, that you left messages and no manager called back. What kind of manager is that who isn't around to manage things? Isn't that the point of a "manager"?

I hope you are enjoying your trip otherwise! :goodvibes

Wow, I wonder if the other hotels nearby are also charging for parking?

The BWPII which is next door or very close charges $8 per day for parking, and it is VERY CLEARLY INDICATED on the booking form.

This is total garbage. I'm sure it will get resolved to your satisfaction, but you should not have to be working this hard for something so relatively minor. The Tropicana should take some lessons in customer service from their Disney neighbors.

And they are wrong that this is "different" than changing the room rate.

This is very frustrating for you!!! This should not be happening.

By now, I would be looking elsewhere. Is it too late to do so??

I know you can contest it with your credit card and likely not have to pay the parking fee in the end, but seriously, I am beginning to have major second thoughts for you.

They are going to quibble over that and NOT even get back to you?? Ugh.

Do they know how much business they probably just lost?

Edited to add: O.K. sorry, just re-read post, and see you are there... yes, make the best of it, and contest it with your credit card afterwards since you do have proof I think, that the policy changed after you made the booking. The whole point of booking in advance is so that you know the actual rate including all extra fees - you were not informed at the time of booking of the parking fees, NOR were the parking fees in effect 2 mos. ago when you booked so in no way are you on the line for this. Pay what you must now, and contest with your credit card for satisfaction of not having to pay the parking fee. Good luck, and thanks for keeping us posted! :)

:sad2:

I personally would just let it go and deal with it after vacation by hounding them when you get home or calling credit card company. My dad is of a different sort and would make it his mission to make them miserable while he was there or take enough towels to make up for it (not that I condone such behavior). Good luck however you proceed but do not let it ruin your time across the street at Disney.

Just checked into tropicana, booked 2 months ago. One big reason picked here was free parking. They told me changed policy week ago now parking 9 a day and nothing they can do, so upset, waiting on their manager to call me back as she wasn't on site at the mOment. Idk if I'm being out of line but feel if booked 2 months ago I should of been made aware of new policy or something.

As a desk clerk...I would be a little more than upset. A policy change should go into effect for persons booking after the day they made the change. Definately complain to the manager. $9 is crazy btw.

I would be really annoyed at this point! Threaten with the credit card! The Doubletree we stayed at charged us for our stay, even though I had paid through the TA. When I threatened with going to the credit card company, I got my charge reversed immeadiately! Good luck!

O goodness, I hope to hear the outcome of this because we picked Tropicana for their free parking and distance. We'll be there in one month your news has me disappointed. I will need to call because I made reservations April 1 when their website still stated "free parking". I'll hear what they have to say and bring in my reservation email to try to contest to their parking fee.

Please keep us updated!! Enjoy your time and don't let Tropicana take over your joy and happiness!!!

Hmm... I will be interested in their response. I don't know a single PMS (Property Management System) that will apply new fees to existing reservations. This should be an error on their end. I am sure it is a misunderstanding but if they charge you fees not detailed in your confirmation I would blast them everywhere from Trip Advisor to the BBB.

You have the manager's card and email address. You should forward the link to this thread....

Like others have said, don't sweat it. Dispute the charge when you get home.

I've seen low-budgets places tacking on as much as $25 per person in resort fees. People think they booked a $30/night room in Vegas only the end up being charged $80/night. Parking Fees and Resort Fees have been all the rage for a few years now and they try to hide those charges at the bottom of the "amenities" page or hotel description and hope people don't bother to read every word of fine print before booking their room.

"But look, you found the notice didn't you"

"Yes," said Arthur, "yes I did. It was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying 'Beware of the Leopard'."

Once people have been conditioned to root out parking fees and resort fees, they'll find some other way to slip in surcharges. Pretty soon, it'll cost $10 to unlock the bed, $5 to unlock the shower.

Or, it will be like campgrounds and you will have to pay a quarter per minute in the shower!:rotfl2:

Off topic-
:lmao: Love that book!!! :thumbsup2 Douglas Adams had a knack for pointing out the ridiculous in society. He also did a text adventure computer game where the goal is to try to get the bank to acknowledge your change of address form. :lmao:

Back to topic- ;) Can't wait to see how this is resolved!

You laugh but some RV campgrounds with full hookups are starting to charge extra if they "catch" people running AC or doing laundry in their rigs. "Well, sure we rented you a site with water and a 30 amp electrical hookup but actually using those things is gonna cost extra." Go to an RV park built in the last few years and you might see individual meters on the water and electric hookups. Just like hotels and airlines, they're going "a la carte" with their pricing to make their product seem less expensive than it really is.

Ok so as of day 3 ending I have been to front desk three times and no manager and no call back when I leave another message, told by staff that it's really Disney fault as I booked through their site and the should informed me of change and fight with them. Was promised manager call me today abs nothing, done fighting will continue to call and checkeith credit card company when back home, ugh.

It's nice for you to stop by with the update. I would disagree with the charge at checkout if you need to do paper work then, but not worry about it until then. Then take it up with the CC issuer for being charged for something you didn't agree to.

Does it matter if you booked a package deal ?
We booked the Tropicana for June through getaway.com
They specifically mentioned no charge for parking at the time of booking, but it wasn't stated in the confirmation
I called getaway a few weeks ago and they said if there were any issues to contact them

Wow... now they are blaming Disney because you booked through DTC. Unbelievable. I have been thinking of trying the Tropicana but now will not. The way they have handled this whole thing is horrible!

Yup, I'm on board with you Mickeybell! I have to say, I will never try the Tropicana for this reason alone. I don't care if they charge for parking or not, its the terrible and disgusting way they chose to deal with this matter!:headache:They obviously don't care how they treat people or how they are able to ruin someone's vacation! AND the manager should be ashamed of himself/herself for not resolving this with so much as a phone call! The Tropicana could have saved themselves a bunch of bad publicity and just refunded the cost of the parking...but that would be much to easy wouldn't it! Good luck, and I hope you get your money refunded. If not, so sorry:sad2:but thank you for posting this to the board so that others may benefit from your misfortune.:)
