Tropicana rant

Welcome to the boards! :yay:

Anyway, don't rule out all other off site hotels. I have stayed at some excellent places (Candy Cane Inn is our favorite) for a fraction of the price of a DLR hotel. I'd love to stay onsite sometime, but a room for $130 instead of $300 means we can go to the parks more days.

Yikes I was just about to book this hotel for two upcoming quick trips with family from out of town but not anymore. That is so rude how they treated the OP and to make her have to fight this charge, and act as if you dont care....just wrong. I will file this one away on the never stay here list and that is that. We do prefer the GCH but for just a one night stay I thought staying somewhere cheaper would be fine. Rethinking this. Certainly not trying this hotel. I wanna know how that manager gets away with this behavior btw...they do not belong in customer service!

I'm sure there is someone everywhere that has had a horrible experience with every motel/hotel on harbor and all around DLR. So are we all going to scratch them all off our list? I even had one at HOJO! So who wants to scratch that one off their list?

Yeah they could have handled it better for those that were not informed before their trip. But I got the email about the parking fees ahead of time, and even if I don't like it, they are entitled to change their policies as they wish. We've always had wonderful stays there, and I would not scratch it off my list because of what one persons experience is. Just as I really doubt most HOJO fans would stop going there based on my bad experience. The only place I've gotten stellar customer service was at a DLR hotel, but I'm sure there are people here that could give some bad experiences of those places too!

Came back from a weeks vacation staying at the Tropicana
They covered half the parking and the other was covered by the Travel agency
We did enjoy our stay here
The parking itself can be a bit challenging in the evening i.e no open spaces, but the valet is there to help. Pool was nice and rooms were clean. Overall I'd consider staying there again, but so many choices so will probably consider other places in future

I may have missed it but to get any businesses attention file a Better Business Bureau complaint, that will light them up big time.

We just got back from staying there today. We had a wonderful stay, so clean, and quiet. Had a room on the top floor and could watch fireworks from our room. We enjoyed the hot tub and pool. The staff were pleasant, and we didn't mind the parking fee. We never had a problem finding a parking either, and we came and went to dinner and such a few times.

I think it's kind of silly to not pick this place because of this. But to each their own. We noticed all the places on Harbor had the parking people standing outside. Just the way it is now, and frankly even though we made our reservation BEFORE this policy, I wasn't going to make an issue out of it. They have the right to change their policy, and really if $9 a day was going to break us we'd have to consider if we could afford vacation period! We will for sure be staying there again next year.

They do not have the right to change this after you make a reservation. I strongly recommend writing a review on TripAdvisor, Yelp, Expedia, Travelocity and sending a letter to Disney suggesting that they no longer consider them a Good Neighbor hotel, as this is not being a Good neighbor.

As for their neighbors doing this, many do not charge parking in the area. Among these are: Courtyard by Marriot, Motel 6, Best Western (I think the one closest to the park might, but the rest don't), Extended Stay, Holiday Inn, the list goes on and on.

Some do charge parking; however, they will tell you up front. (Except name your own price on priceline, I do think they should be required to include parking, but that;s another story).

To the OP: Definitely contest this with your CC, honestly, I wouldn't have signed the paperwork when they told me that and demanded a refund and to put me up in a hotel that doesn't charge a parking fee.

My worst Disney trip hotel experience ever was at the DLH. It was so bad that by the end of the trip they comped us one night of our stay because it had been so wretched. :) A bad stay can happen anywhere. I certainly haven't sworn off all Disney properties for all time- or even the DLH.

I would like to know what happened to cause this? I mean right now, with all of the construction, I could definitely understand, but normally I wouldn't know what might cause this.

I meant the ones on Harbor that are within good walking distance. I sure wouldn't pay for parking if I needed to walk anymore then a couple of minutes to get to the parks. Especially if I need a shuttle or to drive in. I wouldn't stay at most of those you mentioned, too far from the parks.

Doesn't bother me any if people don't stay there, it's their loss. But I'll leave a good review on Tripadvisor. Since we just had a great stay there. Way better then our stay at places further away like Hojo.

I think it was the principle of expecting one thing and then being told another when you got there. Also, the customer service was horrible. I would never go back to this hotel if they had done this to me. And, 9 bucks is a lot, especially if you are on a tight budget. Four or five days of that is a lunch or a dinner. I think it all goes back to customer service. We had what could have been potentially a bad experience at a hotel near DLR, but the customer service was so good that I would consider going back.

Disneyland is expensive, seriously if $9 a day could make or break a trip, I'd say maybe that person should spend some more time saving up. There are plenty of other places further away to stay that won't charge the parking fees. Personally we LOVE being that close, so it's worth every penny. We paid $109 a night this week, plus the parking. A lot of people pay a lot more per night elsewhere.

I do think they should have emailed everyone right away when they changed the policy, and maybe worked with those who didn't get notified. But I've seen worse when it comes to customer service, that's for sure. Again to each their own, we love staying there.

This boils down to communication. Nine dollars is a lot, especially if you have budgeted and you get there and all of a sudden you have to pay it. If they had been informed ahead of time, you could figure out how to pay for it. However, what do you do when you get there and all of a sudden owe more money? My DH and I figure our budget really close and a "little" thing like owing another 50 bucks in parking would be difficult for us to pay if we didn't know. If you knew ahead of time, you skip a couple of meals out and then you have it. Again, it's the idea that it was bad customer service at best and a bait and switch at worst.
