Dvc rental store refunds for owners when renters cancel

I believe you can add the dining plan via the DVC site.....as long as you have payment info...
You have to contact MS and it’s a PITA, using someone e else’s gift card or credit card numbers. I had to do it once, and here’s what I got from DVC Rental Store:

This process must be completed by you, the Disney Vacation Club Member, and is outlined in the Intermediary Agreement you signed when renting your points.

Please contact DVC Member Services within the next 3 days to add the Disney Dining Plan to this reservation, and use the Disney Gift Cards listed below to make payment.

$50 didn’t do it for me.

Yeah, I forgot about they’d probably have gift cards as renters.

The ones I did it for were family and so giving me the CC to do online was no issue.

WOW I didn't know they could ask you to use a renters Disney GCs.

Honestly seems very messy and not like something I would want to do at all. I am paranoid enough about my own Disney GCs.

Using a renters GC seems like the best way to do it.
A GC is not locked to a specific user or owner. The one who have the numbers are able to use the card.

Should there be any problem whatsoever you have the email or however you corresponded with them as documentation.

I've had Disney GCs locked and it's not an easy process to have it corrected.

I am also guessing someone paying for a DDP on a rental most likely combined lots of discounted Disney GCs from multiple retailers of varying denominations which can get complicated with Disney GC guest services.

I would also never want to have Disney GC numbers in my email unencrypted.

What happens if I call MS as the owner and the renter has compromised DGCs and I can't add the DDP? What if the Disney GCs are drained to $0? Then I need to go back to DVC Resale Market, but the renter claims the Disney GCs were fine until I as the owner attempted to buy the DDP? Who is at fault?

Just seems unnecessarily messy and a bit sketchy. I would personally prefer DVC Resale Market take payment from the renter and then reimburse me for the DDP after proving I paid for it as the owner. I guess renting with DVC Resale Market is not for me 🤣

Back in 2011 or 2012, I did rentals for the first and only time. I had to cancel my 11 month booking and forego my usual winter trip.

How the dining plan was managed was with a 3 way call with Member Services. MS suggested this themselves and were aware that the reservation was a rental. They were very helpful. That way the person renting was able to give their own credit card info.

And that same year, I also did a transfer, with a lot of help from MS, including a 3 way call.

There was also a lot of conversation going on about commercial renting at the time. If I remember correctly I did several small rentals and the one transfer.

I just assumed that the renter paid David's either by PayPal or credit card and then David's purchased a GC to send to me in order to buy the DDP. But I guess there are renters who might purchase a GC to themselves. Does anyone have direct knowledge as a renter as to how these intermediaries direct renters to make their payment?

Here is what the agreement says. It sounds to me like they require the renter to pay them for the DDP first and then it gets added.

Given they have to pay the owner $50 to add it, it makes sense that the gift cards might be ones from the rental store.
