Tropicana Inn?

Hi,
I looked through the hotel thread but didn't see anything in the first 20 pages about Tropicana Inn.

Our normal Good neighbor hotel (candy cane inn) was already booked so we chose Tropicana Inn for not only the price but the fact that it says it is located right across the street from the main entrance.

Now granted hubby and I and our soon to be 5 year old son (the trip is his bday present) will mainly be at the park but with a child walking distance is key.

I am a little nervous about staying in a new hotel for the first name.

It also says they have continental breakfast (a plus in terms of money)

Has anyone stayed there? Have pictures?

Opinions? Thoughts?

We stayed there once three years ago. I got a very good rate. The experience was nothing special but fine. The hotel was completely booked when we were there, and I felt that the front desk staff was a little rude and snippy. Our room didn't get cleaned until after 2 or 3 everyday which made afternoon breaks kind of hard. The room was clean when we arrived though and a decent size. We were on the first floor in a back corner which I didn't especially like, but I have to admit it was not noisy. The walk is excellent; it is one of the closest motels. Parking was fine, but we never tried moving our car and re-parking. We did not visit the pool. I remember the continental breakfast as being one of the more minimal ones. We have never returned mostly because we have found better deals and other places we have liked better, not because there was anything wrong with the place.

My in-laws stayed here last year with two of their other grandchildren and had a pleasant experience. They raved about their upper floor room and being able to see the fireworks from the motel. They loved the short walk; these grandkids were younger than our kids. My mother-in-law said the pool was nice although in the parking lot area. They were very happy with their stay and said they wouldn't hesitate to return.

We just checked out Sun. after a 4 night stay. I was pleasantly surprised with the place. I've also stayed at the Fairfield, Desert Inn and the Marriott. The only one I wouldn't go back to is the Desert Inn.

We paid about $110/night TOTAL (even parking) from getawaytoday.com. I think it was 4th or 3rd night free?

The hotel was remodeled (new furniture, not sure what else) this year, I believe I read here. The breakfast was the usual cheapie donuts/ danish/ croissants/ apples/ oranges/ coffee. It was fine. The shower had typical low pressure but not too bad. The bathroom tile floors were heated, which was nice. We had two adjoining rooms on the first floor up near the office, so the walk was extra short. We had showers only so maybe we were in handicap accessible rooms. We don't have bath age kids so that was fine. The noise wasn't too bad. Where we were I did hear some people walking by after the park closed, people who aren't careful as they walk by motel windows. The parking was right outside the door. We don't swim. The Tv was a nice, newer flat screen with plenty of channels including Starz (several). I don't take pics. The beds were too hard for me but it's no biggie. There were two queen beds and two easy chairs in each of our rooms so plenty of room. We didn't try their restaurant. The attached mini mart came in handy. The staff was friendly and helpful what little we saw of them. The rooms were clean. I would go back and I'm a tough customer.

We were going to splurge on GC but decided to save a ton of money and have an even shorter walk to the esplanade. I'm so glad we did.

The one reason I kinda missed the Fairfield is because we got pizza two nights this trip and the waits were long and the pizzas (one Papa Johns, one Pizza Hut from two miles away) were terrible. I think there's a Pizza Hut in the Fairfield.

Not a ton of pictures but you can get the idea of the room.

We stayed there last March. The room is your standard 2 queen room with a tropical decor. We had a tv, mini fridge & microwave. The room was clean & quiet. We were right next to a lit sign, but with the thick, dual curtains in the room.....we didn't even notice it.

We never did the breakfast there so no opinion on this. They do have a mini store & small little shop that sells coffee & pizza.

The pool is in the middle of the parking lot. We didn't use it but it was always busy!!

The staff was friendly & responded quickly when we mentioned the toilet wasn't flushing right.

Looking closer at that thread.....the Trop may have remodeled since our visit.....also check out the same page, Posts 23 & 24!!!

We stayed there when we did a quick visit 4 years ago, and this year we will be back. There are cheaper hotels, and you can get a pass for the bus, but the reviews were mixed and I wasn't sure if we could get there early enough for MM or TTMM. Plus, the location is great since DD is only 6, and may need a break in the middle of the day (oh, alright, MOM will need a break ... :lmao:).

We enjoyed our stay, the front desk staff was very friendly (the manager gave us a pin for the 50th anniversary). We did not use the pool as it was a short stay so we maximized park time. Breakfast is OK, nothing to write home about, but enough to get you going. We visited the little shop for something (I can't remember what anymore). The room was fine for us (this next trip should be better since they remodeled). We got a room upstairs facing the parking lot. I think you will enjoy your visit.

We've stayed there, the staff was great, rooms were clean and large and it was a very easy walk. The free bfast is fine but nothing great. It's just pastries (danishes or donuts) and fruit, some juices, basic cereals and milk. Nothing major but good enough to grab a quick bite on your way to the parks.

They have upgraded the breakfast! We will never forget when we stayed there when the kids were teens that there was a lady who watched the 'breakfast' which was a box of, I swear, day old doughnuts, and would only let each person take one. There was no fruit, cereal or milk. Maybe there was juice. Other than that, we enjoyed our stay there.

Of all the offsite places we have stayed (HoJo, Camelot, BWPPI and Tropicana) the Tropicana is our favorite. Its got the great location, the rooms are nice and they have a microwave and frig and we think it has the nicest pool area besides Hojo right there on Harbor. And I love the free breakfast, its nothing special for sure but any money I can save towards Blue Bayou is a good thing. And the staff were all wonderful to us when we stayed there and to my fil who was with us.

We are coming in January and if we decide to do offsite, we'll book Tropicana again.

Now it has been four years since we stayed there, but we recommended it to some friends who were there last month and they loved it as well.

Love the Hojo but have a hard time staying there now that I have stayed closer! And I know the walk isn't "bad" but my feet are just sayin....;)

I agree the Tropicana is a great choice. I have stayed there several times and never had a problem. Not a four star, but decent and CLEAN. The breakfast isn't anything special, but will hold you over. Hope this helps! Enjoy:goodvibes

Yays - I just reserved a room here for 4 nights for the end of oct. Thanks to all the great reviews and poster- Angel Ariel.... with a great picture of rooms with a balcony- which is what I really wanted! I had no idea this motel had balconys! I am excited and when we booked we asked for a balcony view- of course not a guarantee /sigh... but I can hope! Also- its right across the street! Cant beat that! I was going to do the Sheraton Park... they have balconies too.... but the ART was making me change my mind. they say you can walk it - but I would rather be across the street. I also need to cancel my first resi for the BWPPI. I hope I have made the right choice!

Yayy for you! And don't worry, we stayed there twice (we've not stayed at any of the other hotels). The location is what decided it for us.

WOW that's huge.
Here are some thumbnails.

These are from Memorial weekend this year.
We have stayed at Motel 6, Ho Jo, Candy Cane, & Disneyland Hotel
The walk was GREAT
The Breakfast room was simple but quick. (Donuts & coffee - The juice is punch) We grabbed some fruit for the park bag.
Candy Cane breakfast is a larger offering.

Our room was clean, the staff was friendly and we would return.

have a great trip!!

get tropical at the Tropicana inn …

just kidding!! No I heard it was ok hotel.

We've never stayed there before, but check in there next Weds for 4 nights. Got a good deal on www.getawaytoday.com for tix/4 nights for $850. Makes it about $100/night, which for that location, is GREAT!

I can't wait!

yeah I checked out getawaytoday too- they added in extra fees which I didnt like. I found it too be cheaper too just call and do it over the phone- er actually I had DH call that way we can get dibbs on a Balcony view. I have no idea why i have this balcony obsession lately- prolly spoiled from the Grand. Yep I bet thats what it is. Ever since sitting out on my balcony at the Grand its like all I can think of. It was very relaxing. But I cant afford the Grand this time around. So Tropicana it is- and Funball my DH said almost the same thing when I told him about the new motel option- he said sounds tropical and wanted to know if any Cubans will be there LOL.
