The Magic is on a Western Route this week, right? Anyone know if it had to be re-routed due to the storm?

From the Royal Caribbean website...

Tropical Storm Isidore - Travel Update

Miami - September 18, 2002 - Royal Caribbean International is altering the itineraries of four ships, Explorer of the Seas, Voyager of the Seas, Monarch of the Seas, and Rhapsody of the Seas, due to the projected path of Tropical Storm Isidore.

The safety and comfort of our guests and crew members are always Royal Caribbean’s foremost concern.

Royal Caribbean is closely monitoring the path and progress of Tropical Storm Isidore to ensure all guests and crew members can enjoy a safe and pleasurable cruise experience, and our ships steer clear of the storm.

Explorer of the Seas will cancel its scheduled port call in Cozumel, Mexico, on September 19, spend the day at sea, and add a port call in Nassau, Bahamas, on September 20, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Voyager of the Seas will cancel its scheduled port call in Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, on September 19, and in Cozumel, Mexico, on September 20. On September 19, the ship will now make a port call in Labadee, Hispaniola, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The ship will spend the day at sea on September 20, and will now make a port call in Nassau, Bahamas, on September 21, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Monarch of the Seas will cancel its scheduled port call in Costa Maya, Mexico, on September 19, spend the day at sea, and add a port call in Coco Cay, Bahamas, on September 20, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Rhapsody of the Seas will cancel its scheduled port call in Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, on September 19, and spend that day at a port call in Belize City, Belize, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

All other Royal Caribbean ships are sailing their normally scheduled itineraries.

Royal Caribbean will continue to closely monitor Tropical Storm Isidore and provide updates as necessary.

according to www.weather.com Cozumel is 77 degrees right now with partly cloudy skies.

I know the Magic is at sea today so maybe they can steer around it if it poses a problem. Cozumel does not seem to be in any danger at the moment. Maybe RCCL was anticipating the worst.

According to www.weather.com on Isidore:

Heavy rains pelted parts of Jamaica Wednesday, and emergency workers braced for flash floods as Tropical Storm Isidore inched its way across the country. The system next targets Cuba, and could strike there as a hurricane by Friday.

Isidore's center was located 165 miles east of Grand Cayman at 5 p.m. (EDT). Maximum sustained winds strengthened to 60 mph, as the storm trekked northwest at 9 mph.

Even though the system's center had passed Jamaica, heavy rains were expected to continue for the next day.

People in Cuba were already on alert for Isidore. A hurricane watch was in effect for western Cuba Wednesday afternoon. That watch could be upgraded to a hurricane warning by Wednesday night, according to the National Hurricane Center.

It all depends on if and when Isidore strengthens and when it makes its way to Cuba.

What Isidore will do after it crosses Cuba is on the minds of people across the Gulf of Mexico.

"Right now, there are two branches that Isidore could take," said Steve Lyons, tropical weather expert at The Weather Channel.

There's a chance that a front now over the Midwest could move southward during coming days. If that happens and if Isidore's forward speed increases, then the front could and pick up Isidore. That front would push Isidore into the northeastern portion of the Gulf, says Lyons.

However, if Isidore continues at its current speed, then the front will miss the tropical system, putting the western half of the Gulf of Mexico at risk.

Lyons says at this point, it's too early to predict which branch the storm will take or how strong it will become.

"Intensity forecasting beyond a three-day period is prone to very large errors," said Lyons.

Tropical Update, The Weather Channel Tropical Storm Isidore continues to become better organized with a central minimum pressure of 990 mb. Isidore is now nearing hurricane strength. The storm is located 160 miles southeast of Isle of Youth and is moving west-northwest at 8 miles per hour. Flooding rains in Jamaica are finally coming to an end and the tropical storm advisories for Jamaica have been dropped. However, tropical storm warnings are posted for the Caymans and hurricane warnings are posted for western Cuba. A northwest track is still projected and could enter the Gulf of Mexico by late Friday or early Saturday. Interests around the Gulf should monitor the storm closely over the next few days.
