Katrina was more powerful however that may not mean a thing. Tornadoes are spawned during hurricanes and seas can get extremely rough. Each storm is unique.
7 years ago a tropical storm went inland in Texas came east towards Louisiana. It dumped 36" of rain on our town in less than 24 hours. No one was worried because it was "just" a tropical storm. Hundreds of houses were complete disasters and had to be torn down.
Since that storm, I never underestimate the destructive capability of any storm.
