Tropical Storm Debby at the Magic Kingdom

Quick video of a family reunion trip to WDW on June 24th, 2012 just as Tropical Storm debby hits! My family had been planning this trip for years and we thought it was going to be a wash out. We arrived on Saturday June 23 when the storm was reported to head west and away from Florida. The path changed directly towards Florida over night, but Sunday was our Magic Kingdom day so we bit the bullet and pressed on. I am really proud of the little ones in our group. No complaints or tears.

I really enjoyed your video. My children and I were there that day too. Prior to the trip, this was the one day of our trip I hoped not to have any rain because my daughter had a BBB appointment. So much for that. Debby sat over us mocking us, but we went from rope drop eating our breakfast in the rain waiting for the park to open and accomplished in the first 90 minutes what would take 3 hours on a normal day. We stayed until after lunch, then went back to the resort to get dry and get dd's stuff. We came back out at 3:00 to go to her 4:00 appointment and stayed until after our dinner at CRT. We left at around 8:45 having had probably the most magical day of the trip. My babies are 9 and 2 and we splashed right on through it and I was so proud of them that day and the other days she pounded on us.

It can really take the wind out of your sails to plan for so long and have that happen, but unless they figure out how to put a dome over WDW, it is a chance we take. I was grateful there was no lightening forcing them to close stuff. I told my daughter we rocked it. Looks like your family did too and it's interesting. I've noticed that since we got back, the rain doesn't bother me as much.

I really thought they should make a shirt that says: I Survived Tropical Storm Debby. Walt Disney World 2012. I bet they would have sold like hotcakes.

Loved the song accompanying the video. My 2 year-old and I were jamming to it and I actually needed that reminder today. Thank you for sharing.

We went back to the Magic Kingdom a few days later and I actually missed the rain. The rain drove most people away so the lines were small and it was so hot without the clouds the second day. I wil probably try to avoid WDW in the summer, but with the kids in school it will be tough.

As I am featured highly in Rags13's video I thought I would add that after midnight that night, it finally stopped raining so my DS, DB, DB and I went back out into the park and stayed until 2:00 am while my DH stayed with all the kids. It was a blast and my family can't wait for the next trip! We just wore our swim suits all day long and pretended it was a water park

We noticed the same thing. Two days later was our rest day. All we had was a dinner reservation at O’hana. That Sunday (6/24) was actually supposed to be our last day in MK for the trip, but when the sun came out on the 26th, I thought it might be nice to get some rain free time in MK. Since we were staying at All-Star Movies and had to take the bus to MK anyway, we decided to leave about 2.5 hours early and have some time in MK before our reservation and some after dinner. It’d mean adding a day to our tickets, but no big deal.

Got to MK and it seemed like the sun called everyone over. We hardly got anything done, but did get to see the rain version of the afternoon parade and redo a couple of our favorite things. It seemed so crowded though. After dinner it was still clear, so when we took the monorail back to MK, I asked my daughter if she wanted to go back in. Her response: “No thanks.” We said our good-byes and went on to the bus stop.

I know what you mean about school scheduled dictating things. I envy people who take the October and November trips especially, but I don’t have one of those children who can miss school easily. My daughter just happened to have Thanksgiving week off in 2010 and we took our first trip then. It was crowded, but manageable and the weather was lovely. Plus the holiday decorations were up.

I’m thinking about December for our next one, perhaps adding a couple of days to the beginning of my daughter’s break when they aren’t really doing anything and going maybe from the 15th through the 21st and hopefully getting out of there before it gets to level 10.
