Tropical Storm Alberto. Landfall Expected by Midday. 8 a.m. Update Post 84

Just great! Now I have to worry about my animals at home being blown away! DD and I are in a hotel in Tallahassee. We are here for two days for DD's FSU orientation. So, you can imagine how happy I was to hear that Alberto was heading up to the big bend area. It will be a very wet day on camput tomorrow! I wish I was home with my animals! I hope Alberto moves through quickly so we can head home on Wednesday.

Can you give us all an idea of where you are? My weather radio just started to scream about tornado watches. It's going to be a long night folks. Be safe out there!

I am in Pinellas. I don't think it was as bad as the news thought last night. I think because the Tornados were moving so fast that they just kept moving North.

MAN OH MAN - We are getting the winds today. But it is bright sunny skies here, at least for now.

It is so windy this morning! At least the sun is peaking through. Didn't put our trash out for fear it would get blown away last night. I was really quite scared to go to bed last night with all those tornado beeps that kept going off on the tv. Something about air signatures that the radar could detect. I don't think they really formed any like we imagine a tornado must look like, but all the same it was scary.

I had something happen to the ridge vent on top of the house -- that silvery thing along the top edge of the roof peak. I think it got loose because last night we went into the attic and could see water was dripping through it! Oh, not fun, not fun.

Well that was the night from HELL! Around 1:30 a.m. my weather radio went off. I started listening, mostly still asleep, and it informed me that there was a tornado in the NEXT TOWN! Needless to say, I came to full consciousness in a nano second.

The town they were talking about was Polk City, just north of us about 6 miles away. I staggered out to the TV and flipped on the news to find out that, yes, it was in Polk City but more like 10-15 miles from us. As with so many towns down here, you have the populated area and then you have a land mass that makes up the town. This was about as far away from us as you could get and still say it was in Polk City.

I was so unnerved by all of this, that it was nearly 4 a.m. before I got back to sleep. Today will not be a high productivity day. I've only been up for an hour and I'm ready to go back to bed.

There were so many warnings last night. Hope all the Disers that live in and around this area are OK.

I HATE TORNADOES!!! :furious:

Sorry to hear about the night you had. I should get a weather radio. I slept right through so if anything had been going on here I wouldn't have known it.

I'm right there with you Kathy. Guess I should get one of them as well.

Me too! And I am just around the corner from Virgo!

Come on you people without the radios. Off you go to Radio Shack to get a radio today or tomorrow. Even if it's right only once, it will be worth all the aggravations of waking us up during the night for a false alarm. ::yes::

My weather radio went off at least half a dozen times between midnight and 5:30 this morning. Due to where I live I get the warnings from Everyhwere from Daytona to Tampa. Ugh.

I think the most unnerving one was around 4:00am tornado warnings in Winter Garden.

I need to set that thing to leave me alone during "watches" and only wake me up for "warnings." And not to bother me with tropical storm/hurricane updates, I mean DUH, I kind know that it's coming my way... :rotfl:

A weather radio, sounds like a good idea, but I wonder if I would hear it. I can sleep through a 6.0 earthquake with no problems.

Trust me, you'll hear it! :listen: :scared1:

Maybe we could start a phone chain. The one with the weather radio calls the next person and wakes us up. :)

lol! sounds good to me. I only want to know if it's going to happen...not that it "might" happen.
It's absolutely pouring right now, my yard is littered with palm frauns and someone else's garbage can.
My pool is also getting very full..........nothing that a great big cannonball wouldn't fix though!!!!!

Pat, We just got that heavy downpour. But the sun is trying to come out now. The landscapers came in the middle of it. No way to cut the grass when it was raining like that. :)

I can honestly say that today was one of the most miserable days I've ever had. The wind was blowing and the rain was very heavy. We had to walk across the campus several times. My shoes are wet (only brought one pair with me). I was wringing water out of my shorts. I had on a poncho and had an umbrella, but it did very little good. The umbrella kept turning inside out. As soon as we got back to the hotel, I jumped into a hot shower. I was absolutely chilled. Although it is still raining, it has really let up. We will drive home tomorrow. I hope it is clear!

Peg,

I'm looking at a partly cloudy sky here right now, with lots of blue trying to poke through. We'll probably get some off and on showers for the rest of the night, and there's still a good breeze, but nothing unmanageable. I'm thinking it's very likely I'll take out the roadster tomorrow--no way I was driving her yesterday or today! :car:

Well, Alberto's moved on up into the Carolinas. We've had several tornado warnings in the surrounding areas in the past few hours, which I hate, and lots of rain. We too, needed the rain in SC but I now have three rivers in the open area behind my back yard. Too much, too fast. I think it's going to be a LONG night here.
