Tron roller coaster @MK?

My point was space mountain is as bone dry in terms of physical theming of the actual ride, if you turn the lights on its just a track, don't get me wrong they succeed in the space theming but its gonna cost a lot less to work on space mountain because of the lack of animatronics than say splash mountain or even big thunder. 12 million was a figure in the orlando sentinnel at the time of the reopening in 2009. 12 million goes a lot farther on a ride like space mountain than a ride like frozen
That still doesn't dispute the that the track needs major work.

hahahah yea thats his character and I do see a lot on his site first, granted wdwnt said disney would announce their plans for energy at D Destination in november but if they announce it at d23 is he completely wrong?? timing yes but if it truly is a guardians ride he did say that first.
I suggest you take a look at wdwthemeparks.com. They track rumors and it will show you that often Tom isn't the first to break these stories.

For example here is the timeline tracking for Guardians

July 18, 2016: WDWMagic.com has posted photos of height test balloons over Epcot. Speculation is that this is related to the Guardians of the Galaxy attraction and would be an addition or replacement to the existing Energy Pavilion.

June 29, 2016: BlogMickey.com is reporting that Ellen's Energy Adventure could be replaced with a Guardians of the Galaxy attraction.

June 29, 2016: WDWMagic.com user marni1971 is reporting that Guardians of the Galaxy will be replacing Ellen's Energy Adventure. Additionally, a potential Phase 2 could expand the Guardians of the Galaxy area to include the Wonders of Life area as well.

June 28, 2016: WDWMagic.com user WDW1974 is reporting that Guardians of the Galaxy is likely headed to one of two pavilions in Epcot's Future World.

it disputes you comparing frozen ever after to space mountain, 2 completely different rides and theming and cost. Personally I think space mountain is a ride you expect to get tossed around on, your in pitch black you don't know which way the track is gonna go.

It was closed for about 7 months in 2009 and the refurb cost about 12 million dollars... so I don't know where your getting your info from.

And yet...they still have large sects of original track and never retrofitted it for the trains they've had in Anaheim for hears...

Where are you getting this stance you won't move off of? From a college programmer?

When 19 people say one thing...and you say another, don't die on that hill...

It's a truffle shuffle really.

Tron would be best suited in tomorrowland but I do get people's points about it being right next to another coaster.

If it was to go into Epcot then GoG would have to go over to Hollywood studios, which I wouldn't like. I think that's all mainly because I still believe that marvel doesn't really fit in anywhere in WDW

Have you been to Disneyland? People routinely pick that space mountain over the WDW version and a huge reason they do that is because of the track and how rough it is. That says something and shows how badly the track needs work.

I didn't research your claims, I'll assume your'e right, but Tom's first claim was June 29th, 2016 making it likely that he got it from them, making you right about Tom, welp I gotta admit when I'm wrong, i gotta check out wdwthemeparks.com though.

nope, unfortunatly I haven't had the opportunity to visit the original magic kingdom, I want to though, but I like our space mountain better cause its the first one built

What? Of course it did but what does this have to do with Space Mountain? Also can you provide a link to that 12 million number? I have evidence of the refurb but not 12 million. 12 million doesn't get you a lot in terms of theme park attractions. Space mountain plain and simple needs a full track redo which was originally planned in the 2009 refurb but was cancelled.

A $12 mil budget barley covers the toilet paper at team disney Orlando for a month...that's is literally chump change on a rehab budget...

Well I have...and many others here commenting have too...so if you could be so kind, give us benefit of the non-doubt?

on a ride like space mountain in 2009, 12 million is not chump change...I know youre making a joke but come on....12 million dollars is not nothing to anybody not even bill gates or warren buffett...

You just have to take all their budgets with a grain of salt...they are notorious for both overestimating them when it serves their purpose and downplaying them (all of Ak, test track, etc.) when they want to hide it/save face.

$12 mil is just a nothing number for disney...the frozen budget is a good example for that.

why don't you like wdwnt? Tom hates a lot of other new sites but Pete and the gang he respects.

Tom "breaks" a lot of news that either isn't news or has already been out. He is a little too cocky IMO.

Disney bloggers, vlogger, twitters are an interesting group. Some are really great and friendly to each other, some are nasty to each other, some are more about page views & clicks (which Tom admitted today this was more or less about), many will put anything out there and hope you forget how often they are wrong, many (this sites main competitor) brown nose Disney and I never trust opinions there. To be aware, following but on the outside - it's fun sometimes to watch them battle, to pretend to be journalistic but then CONFIRM something with nothing credible to back it up.

Honestly I like WDWNT more than some others but when they show arrogance, it would be fun to see their CONFIRMED to be wrong. No one ever calls them out. Some follow others and believe everything they post, but we need to always be skeptical because the internet is a great place to create an audience without facts, then those stories end up copy & paste and have a life of their own. I swear half of them are laughing, maybe together, at what they got folks to believe (and made some money doing it.) Many don't care about the readers only the clicks.

I think some things may be not as clear. Yes it closed for 7 months rehab but I am pretty sure it's 12 million plan, which included all brand new tracks, never happened and my guess is they never got that budget. I don't think they got new track or trains, but the tracks were re-calibrated. The major renovation was to the queue lines and loading stations. The part of the ride that was changed was the launch area, darkening the lights and minor changes to exit queue. Part of the project/budget was the demolition of the top of the Skyway building and finishing it off so the restrooms could stay. Some changes to outside of SM building. Imagine most the budget had nothing to do with the actual riding part.

SM needs major work, they need to do it. I've been on it a few times with all the lights on ...... that is way more terrifying than with the lights off.

See what you posted actually makes sense, than to dismiss 12 million as nothing... You are probably right that 12 million was for an overhaul of the track that they never got to, because with SM it literally is replacing the track, they don't have AA to upgrade and replace, its just steel they would have to replace so in terms of refurbishment SM would cost a lot less than most E ticket rides because of its simplicity.

I would say an overhaul of the track would cost 25-30 million today for a ride like SM.

Thank you...and you ain't kidding about the last part.

That was 15 years ago for me...and it was bad then...how much wear and tear from friction/vibration since?

Probably...they would have to have intamin, B&M, or Vekoma (or whoever is left at this point) do a custom design/fabrication to replicate the track.

But that would be a huge mistake in my opinion...its an opportunity to use lsm or compressed air to do a completely different design that would make it a top tier attraction in their most visited park and secure the anchor to tomorrowland for another 20-30 years.

But you see the point of what little you get from 6, 7, 8 figure budgets in the land of the swamp rat?

A lot of that is intentional.

NFL was touted (Potter effect) of having a $740 mil budget...the final price tag was reported about 450 ish...

DAK was alledged to cost $800 million in 1995 dollars...

Guinness had it estimated at $2.1 billion...mine own eyes can tell you that 1.8-2 was realistic.

The door swings both ways...they wouldn't need to underestimate a $12 mil rehab budget though...if they spent more/enough they'd let you know. It's only when they go way over that they get tight lipped.

It was a year ago for me. It was one of the After Hours Special Ticket event. It was as if the lights were automatic when the park closed ... but they forgot about After Hours. So we just kept riding until they turned off lights again. Each time I was sure I was going to die between the shaking, how old it looked, the tight tracks .... :crazy2:
