First, my DGD has announced that she must go on Tron when we go to WDW in October. She's a teenager, and apparently all the "in people" in her school have done it. I'm undecided between the VQ and Individual Lightening Lane (never done either). I'm leaning towards VQ because Grandma here's kind of cheap (Hey, I bought tickets, hotel, etc.-I'm just not inclined to add ILL for her whole family). Maybe if DS paid for everyone else, I'd pay for her. But for now, my questions concern the VQ. First, do I have to try at 7:00 am the day we go? Do you get a choice of times? What if I miss my alarm and get up at 8:00. Might there be something left? Or suppose we wait til 1:00. I assume there's another VQ you can try for then. Do you have to be already in the park? I found signing up for VQ on MDE-is it pretty self-explanatory, easy to follow and do?

You should definitely try for VQ at 7am.

If that is not successful you have another shot at 1pm. That will likely have a return time later than 6pm.

We love Cosmic Rewind at EP which also has VQ with same procedure. Since I don’t ever want to miss a chance to ride any day we do Epcot, my strategy is to try for 7am and if that fails buy the ILL. Then I also try again for 1pm VQ because there’s nothing to lose riding twice.

For 7am you need to be on and trying because it will fill in seconds. No, you don’t get to pick your time and you don’t know what your time will even be. The boarding groups will proceed by number through the day and Disney will notify you when it is your turn. You have 1 hour from notification to get to the ride. The 1pm VQ generally lasts longer but idk about Oct because that is a busy time and yes you need to be in the park.

You need to draw a line with your DGD and/or DS as to who is paying for exactly what or costs are going to skyrocket on you. Tell them that’s nice she wants to do Tron but you aren’t adding LLs to the cost of the trip so she or he can pay for LLs or everyone can be up at 7am trying for the VQ. Honestly I think they should all be up at 7am trying (everyone in the family can try on their app) and Granny should get to sleep in!

Buying ILL is much harder day of ever since the new SPLL/MPLL system started, I wouldn’t count on being able to buy SPLL on a busy day, day of. Availability was bit better when I was poking around today but there is a storm and it’s low season.

Yeah there’s a chance that won’t succeed as well. I was more trying to make the point it’s not a bad plan to buy directly after if you strike out 7am VQ, even if you still have a shot at 1pm VQ.

For peace of mind I would buy it through LLSP. You can pick your time. If offsite, buy 3 days ahead. If onsite, 7 days ahead of your checkin date. Since you are paying for hotel and tickets, I would definitely ask DS to pay for it. Or maybe DGD has some cash saved up. Are you paying for all their food also?

If you happen to be going to the Halloween party, you can just line up for it during that.

Yes right at 7am.
No choice for time. You will be assigned a boarding group.
Have time.is on a secondary phone and have someone else have your group on their phone in MDE.
Time.is always shows that my phone and laptop are always lagging behind time.is.
I was able to get a VQ 8 out of 8 times with this method.

To clarify you don’t need to be in MK for the 1pm VQ drop. You just need to have entered the park. (Don’t tap into a different park after.)

I usually tap into the park and then go elsewhere for lunch. No issues getting a 1pm VQ outside of MK.

I like your thinking-thanks!

@Simba's Mom look at a few YouTube videos on how to get a VQ. There are excellent tips to increase your chances. And if you do get one, take a screen shot. I’ve had issue twice now with getting the VQ and it not showing up in MDE. But with the screenshots,
I was good to go.

I would ask the parents to chip in for LL Single Pass (it's not called Individual Lightning Land anymore).

DGD is a teenager? I would put her in charge of getting the VQ if that is the route you take (or of she wants to ride twice, assuming it's OK for her to ride again solo or another member of the party will agree to it). My 11 yo niece's fingers get faster every year! Have her watch some You Tube videos, put the Atomic Clock app on another phone , and at 6:59:59 or whatever, she can go for it.

We have only ever used the Virtual Queue. We try for our first Virtual Queue at 7am. We usually have 3 people trying for it. At 6:45 am in the app, click on bottom right 3 lines, then click on virtual queue. Then confirm your party. We used time.gov at 6:59:59 on world clock and pull down or hit refresh. As quick as possible click on "join virtual queue" and then quickly hit done. I'm not sure if the process is still the same, but we did that two years in a row with success for both TRON and Guardians.

We had success last year getting a 7am Virtual Queue for TRON and a 1pm Virtual Queue for Guardians. We started our day at Magic Kingdom, rode TRON and park hopped to EPCOT to get the 1pm virtual queue for Guardians.

We are usually on a budget and cannot afford Individual Lightning Lane.

I use the Atomic Clock App on one device and another device is ready to refresh into the queue lottery. Usually works, but be fast. And practice beforehand.

BTW, GotG has been very lenient on not requiring entry within 1 hour of BG being called. We usually drive in so I enter the 7 am queue and just go to the ride pretty soon after arrival. I’ve had similar luck with Tron, but haven’t tried it as often.

Right? You gotta get your group set up beforehand and smash, smash, smash without looking.

You need to setup your party and be ready by 6:59am. Then keep clicking refresh and at 7:00 it will turn to join. Quickly click and you will be assigned your group. This has always worked for me.

I watched the VQ availability this morning. Guardians was gone in seconds while Tiana’s lasted a minute or so.

Tron is still available after over 30 minutes.
