I'm not sure why exactly it got greenlit and with the budget and lead actor they went with.

This is a pervasive problem right now with TWDC studios side of things. There isn't one studio (i.e. Pixar, Lucasfilm, Marvel, Animation, etc.) right now that is making consistently good decisions with cast, writers/scripts, directors/storytellers and budgets (both production and P&A). There is a hit every here and there, but there are far, far too many poor decisions.

At least TWDC can raise park prices on guests.
