I just read Another Voice (whose movie insights I always enjoy) mentioning Tron (being barely remembered), and was wondering if anyone knows anything about the Tron 2.0 project that Jim Hill has previously hinted at in one of his articles. Is this fact or fiction, and if fact, what's a good place to ready up about it?

‘Tron 2.0’ is in a place in Hollywood called Development Hell. The director of the original ‘Tron’ has submitted a script and Disney has expressed interest in the film, but nothing’s committed yet. From what I understand, the director’s all hot to go – but Disney has reservations about the script (basically a rehash of the first movie with more Internet lingo and a younger, better looking cast of characters) and the budget.

The script is being bounced around a bunch of different writers. If any of the seventy-eight re-writes results in a “good script” that fits Disney’s budget, this one is probably a go. Eisner was really hot on this one for a while (he saw sequels lined up by the dozen), but his interest has cooled after having to write all those checks for Go.com. Funny how he’s not really into things computer-related these days.

And thanks, wdwguide.

Hmm.. I'd hate to see the original be marred by a crappy sequel. I can't see any way you could do a sequel at this point that would do justice to the first. That would be like taking a classic like Star Wars and trying to make movies based on it 20 years later... oh wait... ;)
