Replacing my old tripod and looking for something lighter, taller and more compact.

I am 6'2". So looking for something that extends to roughly mid 60's but would collapse to fit in or on backpack. So figure 15-19"

I see a bunch but they all hold roughly 4.4lbs. Thought that was kind on light. Figure the biggest setup I would have in the near future is d7000 and 70-300mm lens. That equates to roughly just over 3 lbs. just afraid that I might need more support

Ay suggests for decent tripod that doesn't break the bank. Wasn't looking to spend over $200

Thx

I'm thinking about picking up the Mefoto RoadTrip Travel Tripod. Its specs are: maximum height 61.6 inches, folded height 15.4 inches, weight 3.6 pounds, and load weight 17.6 pounds. Tom Bricker has a good review of it and other tripods on the disney tourist blog site

As someone who is 6'3" and purchased the RoadTrip for our trip to WDW last month I think it would work well for you. It will easily hold that setup and more. If extended entirely I only have to slope slightly and it is comfortable to use.

The one thing you might want to look into is how it will fit on or in your backpack. It is just under 16" slightly more with the bag, so it may not fit comfortably in a backpack. Also, because of the way it folds down it is wider than most travel tripods so it could be an issue on some backpacks.

For the most part I am very happy with my purchase, but I realized that they are like camera bags, you will never find the perfect one.

Thanks. Was looking at that one. Also saw the velbon luxi l. Folds to 15". Max height 64". 2lbs and holds roughly 6lbs. Adorama had it for $135

I'm using the Oben AT-3420 I picked up from B&H. I was able to pick it up on sale for $199.95 but right now it's $259.95. Not sure how soon you were looking to buy but it might go back on sale soon and be under $200 again.

I really love this tripod, it's similar to the Mefoto but a little beefier. One leg detaches to convert to the monopod and center column flips upside down to get those low/touching the ground shots like the RoadTrip. Just doesn't have the fancy colors. ;)

It extends up to 67.3", folds down to 18.8", and weighs 4.1lbs. It is approaching the limits for a travel tripod but works very well for me and what I need.

Also this thread had some good suggestions for travel tripods and worth a look.
